According to anecdotal accounts there are long lines at Chick-fil-A today.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-chick-fil-a-20120801,0,2278818.story

Just two weeks ago, Chick-fil-A was a fast-food restaurant best known for chicken sandwiches and cross-cut fries. Now the chain is known for much more, chiefly its opposition to gay marriage.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has declared Aug. 1 -- today -- Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, encouraging residents nationwide who support traditional values to plunk down some money and let the Christian-run company know it's not alone.
For some unknown reason talk radio hosts Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh also got behind Chick-fil-A. Who knew? ;)

Courtney Clem, 22, strolled over to the Chick-fil-A in Crystal City, Va., to pick up lunch for her entire office and show her support. Clem said she wanted to eat at Chick-fil-A today not only because she supports traditional marriage but because she supports the First Amendment.
"We want to support their right to an opinion," Clem said. "I do support that opinion. And the right. Even if it was an opinion I disagreed with, I'd be here today. "

I agree. The people turning out today are exercising their rights just as the people who haven't been going there over the past several days. No one made that big a fuss over it until what's his name said that chick fil a, as a company, was taking a stand against gay marriage. At that point, people wishing to voice a dissenting view called for a boycott of their products.

This is pretty much the mirror image of Oreo's rainbow cookie ad. With that as well, we had people calling for a boycott and people saying they were going to buy some just to support the company.

Counter boycotts rarely do much good. They will have very limitted and brief success, but those involved in the counter boycotts rarely have much passion for it.

Look at the Susan G. Komen counter boycott. They raised record amounts for a very brief time then their donations plummetted as the regular donors who were boycotting stopped their donations. The boycott worked and their leadership was not fooled by the flash-in-the-pan success of the counter-boycott.

The leftist boycott of #ChickFilA is the first actual economic stimulus of the Obama era.

He said this:

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,”

Wow, horror of horrors!! How could he say such a thing..... Pardon the coldness and political incorrectness here but, why is the gay community getting their panties in a bunch over this? Or are they, really? This, to me anyway, is the politicizing of something that may not even be such a big deal to those in the gay community.

Yes!! A Boycott!! That's the answer! sheesh!

And that was just as asinine as the Chic-Fil-A boycott. Keep in mind that we didn't have mayors of major urban cities refusing to allow Nabisco to expand facilities or start new factories either.

Why should I support a company that gives donations to people I don't agree with? I never ask social conservative hypocrites to do the same for Oreo.

I don't see how not giving them money, whether daily or for this "appreciation day," means I'm opposed to the First Amendment.

Taking a stance on gay marriage seems to be the latest corporate advertising gimmick.

We'll have a few years maybe of folks falling for it hook line and sinker, supporting or boycotting this company or another, before enough people realize they've been had and the corporations will move onto something else.

You do so every single time you log on to this site and increase it's page views.

That's indirect. The money comes from the advertisers. I can't control what they do. They could give zero dollars and zero cents to CF and I wouldn't care. But that's apples and oranges. Chick isn't a medium selling an audience to advertisers. Chick is selling a product to the audience, and apparently by not wanting to buy it, liberals like me are hypocrites for some reason that has not yet been explained.

Hi, Douger.

That's an interesting counter-spin on a fight which Chick-Fil-A didn't start and didn't seek.

The "left" has demonized Chick-Fil-A for a good while now ... simply because they have espoused Christian values for years, because they close on Sundays and because Chick-Fil-A is a private company which is expanding and is not beholden to Wall Street, bankers or shareholders and is therefore immune from the usual leftist pressure tactics.

It's good to see a company which is able to take a stand on principle. I may have to go to Chick-Fil-A for lunch tomorrow.

A year or so ago my dear wife and I had a hankering for chicken and didn't want to go the KFC route. Went to a Chick Fillet looking for chicken parts- legs, thighs, wings and breasts done up by a Christian business. Disappointed we were to find only a sandwich menu. Dry chicken doesn't appeal to either of us.
