It would be Roman Catholic because it is the Southwestern USA under Spanish rule. In the books there is a good deal of Spanish and Roman Catholic culture throughout all of them.
Thanks for the clarification:). Would love to find out why the Eastern Catholic culture didn't seem to flow as well within that culture (Southwestern USA). To my knowledge, in 1902, the Metropolitan of India, with the encouragement of the Anglican Church missionaries from England, desired to bring this ancient church heritage into the west...and through these efforts, in 1934, the Eastern Catholic Church came to these United States in the ministry of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Dr. Mar David of Edessa, O.H.S.

It would have been wild if the Spanish had supported Eastern Catholicism as opposed to Roman Catholicism when it came to their rule in the Southwestern USA....

I didn't know that, but never had really thought about how the costume designers/seamstresses made their patterns/dresses. I thought they just had drawings to go by.
Was thinking the same thing. Had no idea just how intricate working with dolls was..

Then again, I'm the kind of guy that loves Eastern/Asian clothing and would walk around in robes/gowns like they did in the Middle Ages if I had the chance

Not for study, but if you're looking for Middle Eastern style clothes with a twist, Shukr is great at least for women's clothes - I have heaps from there.

Here's the US site :) Islamic and Modest Clothing for Men, Women and Children
Many thanks for the reference, as it's very stunning. I really enjoyed seeing the clothing styles that are present there at that specific site...and some of them seem very similar to another organization I came across that actually had Eastern dresses for those within Hip Hop culture :)

Perhaps I need to start investing in making clothing from dolls and seeing if I could get a connection to have clothing styles tailor made for folks. For it gets REALLY bothersome going to the stores and thinking "I really don't like ANY of these styles"....and I wish people would begin to modernize the styles that were present from older times. If you've ever seen the film, "Kingdom of Heaven" or perhaps the film entitled "A Knights Tale" and how they brought modern day music alongside the styles of dress they had, it is a good illustration:

I've worn long gowns many times that are similar to what many Native Americans have worn. Also, due to having friends/family connected that are Jewish, I've often dressed in flowing garments similar to what he has had many times...though its mainly in fashion similar to how others in Eastern/Middle Eastern cultures dress and and what they walked in back in the day.

I would really love it if I was able to get ahold of someAsian dress styles (like the older monk styles), such as the following:

the_forbidden_kingdom_the_drunken_immortal_poster_jackie_chan.jpg

I've also wanted to find dress styles similar to those seen in anime shows such as Avatar. It's hard to describe apart from visual imagery to give a better impression of how I'd seriously would like to dress:

I've always loved seeing the elements in dress styles derived from East Asian cultures, as well as ones like Inuit cultures. It's just cool to dress that way, IMHO. If I could dress in the manner in which they dressed in Biblical Times, I would dig it.:):D

It does seem a bit on the expensive side. I do wish they had something akin to stores like "Marshalls" or a "TJ Max" or "Ross: Dress for Less"...all of which sell clothes of certain Western styles with discounts/clearance sales:)

I tried finding stores in my area that sold Eastern clothing since I like being able to try things on before I buy them...and the only one was an hour away from me in an area where there was a major Muslim and Indian population. Went into the store with some of my Eastern garb on, asking politely where I could find men shirts as I looked through...and the entire time I was looking, the lady had an assistant (with head-covering, the daughter most likely) who kept giving me mean looks. When I went to the dressing room, she started to bang on the door saying "Is everything okay?" as if she was trying to hurry me out for taking too long. I had one of the shirts get stuck on me for being too small and it took awhile...but the way she responded to me as I got dressed while saying nothing to others, it REALLY bothered me. A lot.....

Shukr's not cheap, but it's really well made, the quality is excellent and they pay their workers a fair wage in good conditions, so it's worth it. I've got four skirts from there (one I've worn just about all the time for about four years and has finally been retired to 'just around home' due to being faded) and three tops/tunics/whatever they are! I find that if you add up the price of how often you wear it (purchase price divided by number of wears) it ends up pretty inexpensive really.

My sister's the opposite and loves to have lots of cheaply made, inexpensive clothing, getting new things all the time and getting rid of others as she gets sick of them, they go out of fashion, or they wear out (beyond my skill to mend them - I do a lot of mending for her because not only are the clothes cheap but she's hard on them!). Somehow we both came from the same parents and grew up in the same house, and we're only two years apart in age!

Well that's encouraging to hear when you place it within that perspective..

Working on my graduate degree, funds are always a difficulty...and it's by God's grace I'm able to work with whatever I have available. If I was loaded with cash, it'd be another thing entirely...but I'm glad to know the clothes last a long time.

The same genetics are present in both of you, except for the fact that certain genes were locked away and accessed differently in you both :)

What costume museums are there to check out which would have greater info? I went online trying to look some up, either in videos or site....but it's alot trying to see which are the best. And it is rather fascinating to see the history and development of how things occurred when realizing that dolls were used as mini-stages for developing fashions for the masses...as opposed to the dolls merely mimicing what fashions were already present and being designed on humans first.

There are quite a few museums in the UK with fashion exhibits, here in the USA it becomes a little more difficult to find outside of schools that teach costuming or fashion design or historical houses. There is a musem in New York, Massachusettes, and L.A. that have exhibits with the fashion dolls in them. I recall their being an exhibit at a historical museum in Virginia, not sure if that was a rotating exhibit or permanent. Also a historical house or museum in Georgia had an exhibit on history of clothing, I don't know if they had any the fashion dolls or fashion plates though, I honestly didn't pay attention when I heard about that exhibit because it seemed more late 19th- 20th century. The museum in New York has by far the best exhibit of textiles in the USA I have ever come across. Here are some links that also have images of some of the fashion dolls and dresses. I am sure if you search fashion dolls or Les Petites Dames de Mode or Theatre de la Mode you might find more examples.

I like Indian clothes, too. Especially their flowing, long skirts. They usually have beautiful colors and are very feminine and modest. That Indian woman is so pretty. :)
i have lots of salwars. the only indian garment i'm not too fond of is the saree. although it is graceful & feminine i find it too cumbersome to wrap. but yeah, i go for the basic cotton salwars like these. this is from a store called pantaloons. it's like the forever 21 of india lol.

Bummer..

When I get the finances to go to Europe, will need to hit that up..

Georgia Museums either have everything on what you're looking for or nothing, depending on the topic.
The museum in New York has by far the best exhibit of textiles in the USA I have ever come across.
I wish they'd make some of their exhibits available to study online..

Many thanks, as they came in handy. The first one especially, entitled Fashion Historian :) I was also able to thankfully look up one that discussed Fashion Dolls in connection with Barbie History, as seen in Barbie Doll History, Types of Barbies and one excellent book on the subject entitled The Fashion Doll: From Bébé Jumeau to Barbie

Beautiful designs. They need to make that available here in the U.S.....although I had no idea you didn't like sarees. I tend to wear mine wrapped around my waist as if it's like a kilt.

Did the people you grew up around use minature dolls to make clothing designs before having them mainstream?

no not really. but my aunt was a seamstress. she had a mannequin/pin cushion thingy that she would use. but i had actual barbies growing up. i love the american girl doll line though. i have the chinese one. i wish they'd make an indian one but without the default bindi. these manufacturers need to realize that not every indian girl is hindu lol.

Which Chinese one are you referring to? There were more than one, if I'm not mistaken....

If they ever made a doll with Indian Orthodox dress, I'd be thankful...:)

I loooove the blue set with the longish dress kameez
And that green and red set!

I have a punjabi suit (basically salwar kameez) because I have punjabi friends at Church and one of them got it for me when she went home. She's determined to get me a sari next time! Here's me dressed 'indian':

I liked the red/black one the best. Really praying that they would begin to make those in styles for men with the same kind of shape.

If I could find older styles like this here, that'd be great :)
