I always pray for the people I dislike. It keeps me humble.

But when they're in the wrong, I tell them.

<edit>

Maybe that is why I am so blessed? :D

I am glad to hear that you do this too. I think it helps those we pray for as well as ourself. We can never have too much of God's grace.

"I hate the idea of ex-gay ministries"...........then you must also be against anyone who ministers to people who want to get free from alcoholism, or from adultery, or from sex addiction, or people who steal, gossip, and slander.................loving the way Christ loves us isn't always a hug........somtimes he even said "sin no more"! as we see in the woman caught in adultery, do you hate the idea of Jesus telling this woman she should stop sleeping around? does that just irk you!

I hate the idea of ex-gay ministries because I don't believe they can produce the desired outcome without causing irreparable damage to the individual in question.

You're right: loving the way Christ loves us isn't always a hug. It isn't always validation and enabling of sin. But Christ never loves through intentional cruelty or hate disguised as love.

:sigh:

I dont think courage causes irreparable damage. It has helped a lot of folks and it is of course ministered by gays who seek grace to overcome the sin.

I agree. Courage is like AA for alcoholics. I know some do not like that comparison but it is the best one I know. That said, I am grateful that Courage exists for struggling gay Catholics to have a source that understands them better than most.

"causing irreparable damage?"........someone could only come to this conclusion if they were completely convinced that homosexuality is impossible to be set free from, if this kind of silly thinking were true then every man and woman that attempted to remain pure would somehow damage themselves by not giving into natural lust and desires. every priest that practiced celebacy should go completely bizerk, actually there are thousands of testimonies from people who once considered them selves gay and have been totally changed by the power of God

You making a judgement call here? How do you know if one is easier than the other. Ask him how easy it is to overcome his anger, and I bet you get the exact same answer from him that you would a person suffering from SSA. Sin's chains have various levels of strength and some are easier to beat than others no doubt. The heaviest chain, I have dealt with all my life, I can safely say that for the most part I have been released from it after fighting it for 30 years! I can guarantee you that the temptations that I faced from these chains was great and at times irrestible. It was only when I was able to finally give myself completely into God's care that I was able break those chains. I also know that this chain is still dangling in front of me and if I commit any that I did before that those chains will lock back onto my wrists once again. Sounds familiar?

I personally hate the idea that society has decided to turn a blind eye to the plight of those men and women that want to be released of these chains. Society tells them that there is nothing wrong with them that they were born that way and yet deep down inside many know that this is wrong. That is why so many IMHO commit suicide because they fall into dispair for they begin to think there is no way to break these chains.

As Catholics we need to let them know if they want to know that there is way to break those chains and that His name is Jesus Christ. It may not be easy, but nothing worth doing usually is.

amen.
What courageous and truthful post.:)

The Church teaches that sin enslaves us. So those who are slaves to sin will tend to believe that it's impossible to escape from it, and they believe this because they don't have God. But those who believe in God know that with God all things are possible.

Well, I hope you don't close this thread because I want to contribute to it later. I have not seen another thread with this question in it. If a person wants to ask a question, why shouldn't they? I thought that was the purpose of this forum.

I hope this thread will still be open later, as I am very busy at the moment.
Hope to post later. bye for now.

I thought it was too. And like you I haven't seen a thread like this so I thought i would ask.

But apparently you can't ask questions on this issue anymore because this doesn't matter in the Church anymore, no longer an issue I suppose.

It seems that way because I've been called out twice already. So I'm calling for this thread to be closed because some people don't know how to ignore posting in threads they don't like seeing or talking about.

I like to think He would hold up and assist anybody who came to Him in earnest.
You have to be prepared to totally admit your sin,and that you are helpless to help your self. Then you have ask Him to forgive you,and help you.You read His word ,you pray and you continue......When you feel you are going to die, that means that the poisons in your system are beginning the clearing out process, just like a drug addict or an alcoholic 'drying out'.
If you are not prepared to go through this process, you are resisting the 'spiritual /physical purification you must go through to renew your self, and you will never ever escape ,from the 'hell' you have made for yourself......
It just gets deeper and deeper.....until.....

Nicodemus ; ''How can a man be born again, when he is old '' ?

Jesus ; ''truly ,truly truly, I say unto you : Except a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit,
he cannot enter, the Kingdom of Heaven''.
''That which is born of the flesh, is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit, is spirit''.
Marvel not, that I said unto thee, ''Ye MUST be BORN AGAIN''.

I wondered why you are sad ?

And I cannot understand what you are saying, or asking exactly ?:)

I'm not talking about courage. I'm talking about reparative therapy, and how I strongly suspect that homosexuality cannot be cured. Am I wrong? Someone correct me, please! Someone who has been through the ex-gay process and lives as a heterosexual person.

Are there any former gays lurking on ChristianForums?

There are a lot of people who say they used to have same sex attraction but are now straight. Do you believe every single one of them is a liar? Only God can know everyone's heart and mind.
