Statement from the Vatican press office: "Osama bin Laden, as we all know, bore the most serious responsibility for spreading divisions and hatred among populations, causing the deaths of innumerable people, and manipulating religions to this end, In the face of a man's death, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibilities of each person before God and before men, and hopes and works so that every event may be the occasion for the further growth of peace and not of hatred."

On the radio they said his body was put out to sea and photos wont be released.

No closure whatsoever in that.
It was absolutely insane to do it that way.
Maybe they should have left the body out to sea in America since the Middle Eastern countries didnt want him to bury him.

And photos ought to be released.

Now here is the thing - if he is dead, conspiracy theorists will announce it is a hoax, regardless of who said he died.
And if he isnt dead or has long been dead, we will never know.

Closure is absolutely important to people.

Well, i know maybe rotten.com will have the photos..they had Saddam and his sons.

As for his death - i am actually numb... and unable to react in any real way. Perhaps i need tangible evidence, and either way - i am frightened at the prospect of where he may have gone, and i hope even he had some sort of mercy from our Lord and it will be difficult - but i will offer up prayers for his soul.
Yet - it is better the world doesnt have someone like him to plan death on innocent lives.

Its tough.

rotten is a horrid site. Gives me nightmares.

There are photos of his dead body, just his head. But joab thinks they might be fake due to the pix-elation differences, maybe he has updates on it. I still don't know what to make out of it, maybe it got leaked, or maybe its a hoax. Either way if they don't have the photos of his corpse people will think its a hoax or someone different was killed.

By burial in the sea do they mean they actually threw his body in the sea? Or did they just wrap him up on the ship according to their custom? From what I heard, a Muslim "martyr" must be buried in the dirt in white cloth wrapped and covered in their own blood(to signify martyrdom)

Throwing someones body in the sea is considered a statement of "out of sight out of mind"

As most know, I'm not a big fan of President Obama, but his speech was well-writtened and well said. The President did an excellent job with sharing the information about Osama and his statement to our Country was perfect.

I can't rejoice over Osama's death because he died without the hope of salvation. Of course, only God knows about that stuff. I'm relieved in that there is one less evil person to plot terroristic acts and continue on with murdering woman, children, parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, neices, nephews, brothers and sisters and men and leaving many upon many scarred by their murderous terrorism.

Osama and his family will be in my prayers. Mercy for Osama and comfort to his family who are grieving as our country grieved for our loss of family and friends on 9/11.

This whole thing is mind boggling and I really don't know what to feel. A sense of relief and a sense of sadness that Osama did not repent and I can't help but believe that God's love for him is just as great as His love for all of us sinners.

I'm proud of our military and grateful that the President made it possible for the military (spec ops) to do their job.

The war on terrorism is far from over and it is only one victory. I don't know what I'm even trying to say. I'm grateful for the lives that may have been saved due to the death of Osama who we know was always plotting to take out more innocent people.

Maybe i became desensitized to rotten.
And it could have been that at one time someone was trying to talk me into histology.

I dont believe that picture is real.
Its decayed and if he was shot in the head it would or could have been worse? plus the fire... i dont know.

I heard conflicting stuff..Obama said in his speech it all went down yesterday.
SO decay is unlikely.

In the picture the mouth is spot on. However the rest of the head looks different. If it is real, the bullet must have been a 5.56 or even a 9mm round. No way it would have been a sniper. As 5.56 is mostly used for M16's and other more close range rifles. Sometimes 5.56 is used in snipers, but it is rare as the standard bullet is a 7.62 for sniper ammo. However a 7.62 shot to the head would have done much more damage than that picture and in this day and age, especially with Spec Ops, a sniper would much more probably be using a .50 cal, in which Osama would not have much of a head left. Which is why is seems kinda hoaxy as the .50 cal will explode the head like a watermelon. In fact the .50 cal is so powerful there have been cases of people being MISSED by up to 1 metre with a .50 round and suffering severe internal injuries from hydrostatic shock

The .50 cal is on the way left, the 5.56 second bullet from the way right. 7.62(the one with the dark cartridge) is the standard sniper ammo, but the .50 cal on the way right is commonly use in the military sniper circles. You can see quite the difference

Thank you. They are saying on tv that he is unrecognizable - head shot.

After the WTC/Pentagon attacks killing thousands of innocents we were rightfully upset to see the Muslim people in the MidEast celebrating and dancing in the streets over it, we don't want to behave similarly, do we? It's not about "tit for tat", is it?

I can understand that!

He can be looked at like a scape goat now....

The reasons for the terror wrecked upon innocents by Al Quaida and other extremists, however, are not gone!

This is like a Pyrrhic victory

I look at it as closure for the families that died on 9-11. Thank God we have soldiers who take up the slack for those who won't.

It is easy to live our cushy lives in America, but sometimes we are called to defend our rights.

I have seen very few rejoicing on these forums, but I will admit it feels like closure to me.

I am convinced that what was just dicsussed on Fox News is correct. Apparently Bin Laden did not have a weapon in his hand when he was shot. The President's orders were almost certainly to kill him. It does appear that Bin Laden was executed. I ask all of you, if true, can we say that such was an act of self-defense?
Its frightening what the Muslim terrorists are planning with this action having been done.
What was the significance of the date to which they watched since Aug where he was..?

that's wonderful. and you have personal knowledge of this? or some competent evidence? sat in a debriefing? watched the raid with the dear leader in the situation room?

Burying the body within 24 hours to respect Islamic tradition was critical, at least in terms of minimizing negative reaction in the Muslim world.

apparently the Muslim world is not very happy with the burial issues. Many of the Muslim world is condemning the way he was buried.
