• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey.
Ok my psycholgist told me that medication would help me especially since I am transferring to another college in January (major stress). I went to the doctor's today and my doctor gave me a prescription for Zoloft.
I was wondering if any of you have been on it and how it helped you. Also did u take Zoloft for something else?
Thanks.

HI there!

I want to first say BEST of luck to ya in your transfer to your new college!

ALSO I want to add that my roommate is taking Zoloft (she is a member here too) and she says it works great for her. PERSONALLY I DO see a difference in her, she does not seem as anxious.

I take Paxil...I MUST warn ya bout Paxil...I have gained weight and I have visited message boards about this subject and many say that weight gain from Paxil is common...HOWEVER it too works good.

MY roommate has ONLY gained 5 WELL NEEDED pounds.... but that is it...NOT LIKE what I gained!

ANYWAY BOTTOM line I am thinkin it is good from seeing my roommate!

God be with you!!! AND GOOD LUCK!

Zoloft is wonderful! I started it when I was in 7th grade, switched over because I had trouble sleeping (found out that wasnt caused by it) and switched back. It was the best medicine I've ever tried for OCD!! It literally changed my life (sounds cheesy, but it really did).

I have used Zoloft for about 3 years... its been up and down for me... yeah I think it has helped a bit, but i'm still trying to get my OCD under total control. So in my view, it hasnt changed me totally, but has helped in controlling obsessive thoughts. Im a transfer student too, and that was kinda stressful, but I got through it!! Just be yourself!

Hey I am taking Zoloft, about 200 MG daily, and i'm in also a group therepy. Zoloft has seem to work for me. Of course I still have my bad days, but overall Zoloft has been good for my OCD and depression. N-E wayz hopefully it helps you, and you will be able to enjoy college. College alone will make anyone take medication!!! Have a blessed day and God bless!!!!!

I was actually prescribed Zoloft, but never took it. I have had such bad results from antidepressants. Some of the side effects have always seemed to be weight gain and high blood pressure. This is an interesting thread. I'm curious to see how others have reacted to Zoloft, even though I realize everyone will not experience the same results. Has anyone tried anything that hasn't contributed to weight gain? I think that this is one big reason my blood pressure goes up, because it seemed to go down after I went off of Luvox and lost weight, something I can't seem to do when I'm on an antidepressant. The longer I'm on an antidepressant, the more weight I tend to gain. Since people are responding about their experiences with medication on this thread, I thought this would be an appropriate place to ask if anyone has taken any antidepressant for an extended length of time that worked for OCD without causing the weight gain?? My doctor said that all of them would cause it, but I do not want to go on something that is also going to require that I go on blood pressure medicine as well.

Thanks,
Rebecca
