Also, what are we letting anybody get away with? Our prison population statistics don't show a great amount of people "getting away" with things.

Ay yay yay. Where to begin with this post. Wow! What makes me think that the black community isn't as outraged about black-on-black crimes as they are these Zimmerman and Rodney King types of situations? Well, let me start with one word---DUH!
Do you see black folks rioting through the streets over cases in which blacks kill blacks? Show me some. Do you see them getting on television or getting a hold of nutcases like Sharpton and Jackson to represent and defend them against other blacks? Well, not really! And how do you know the white face is oblivious to me? You don't even know me!? I take all crime seriously, period. But when I see a witch hunt, I call it like I see it. And Zimmerman's case was a witch hunt with the media trying to affect an outcome.
And as far as your "newsflash," nobody here said Sharpton and Jackson speak for "all black people." We merely stated that these two guys have selective outrage and come out and lead crazy protests at the drop of a hat. Please show me where I said that every black man and woman is a zombie follower of these two. I'd like to see the reference for your impassioned rant there, BB.
Your basic thesis here, which is laughably preposterous, is that since I find George Zimmerman to not be at fault and since I see Trayvon Martin as the aggressor, then by saying that on a Catholic message board, I'm somehow the type of guy that keeps black folks from the Catholic Church? Newsflash, BB, I'm Orthodox, not Catholic. Secondly, do you really think the black community, when considering Catholicism, comes on CF to OBOB to read gurney's posts to see if he's racist or tolerant to then decide if they should go ahead and convert....wooah boy....
The only part of your post that I think made even a 10th of an ounce of sense was the last part about hugging your son. Not sure why you had to point out his race. My son is part Filipino and part Anglo like me. I hug him every day and don't think about his race or relate him to crimes or other stuff out there in this sick world. I just hug my three children because I love them. Simple math. Keep hugging that boy. You're obviously a loving mom, but when it comes to racial issues, you and I just disagree. But I won't put up a post against you stating you're some lunatic or wack-job like you're done to me.

By the way, black-on-black crime is not racially motivated. And regardless of Zimmerman's motivation, he should be doing time on manslaughter charges because somewhere along the way, nobody cared about Trayvon's right to "Stand His Ground" when Zimmerman got out of his car.

The Germans I talk to about WW2 feel a great sense of shame over what their grandparents took part in. They know that they were monsters for participating, even if reluctantly, in evil the way they did. Some Southerners like to fly the rebel flag. You don;t see many Germans flying swastikas and when you do, they are ostracized from their peers and labeled as...well, I can't say that word here, but they are labelled as the sort of people that they are.

I spent last week in Arkansas for work. I had never spent much time in the south outside of large cities before. I was apalled at how much overt racism there is by whites against blacks in 2013. Call me naive, but I had no idea that things were still as bad as I observed.
