1. The Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series. I have a really hard time deciding which one of them is my favorite so usually I just list the whole series. There's really nothing like Metal Gear, the soundtracks are great, and the games make me feel a lot of things. 2. Dark Souls. I love the cryptic story with the hidden lore, the atmosphere is top notch, and it feels good to play. The tone of the world is so depressing and dire, the theme of perseverance is really pronounced. Funny that the best European style medieval fantasy game I've played was made by the Japanese. 3. Bloodborne. Also designed by the team that made dark souls but instead of it being fantasy, it's Gothic. I'm a fan of surreal and bizarre stuff so the weird stuff in this game was a real treat for me. The game is also inspired by the works of one of my favourite authors, HP Lovecraft and the theme of going mad from forbidden knowledge that he pioneered is pretty prominent in the game and it's one I can't get enough of. 4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The grim fairy tale writing style really appeals to me and I adore the Slavic background and influences this game has. It's mature but not edgy or filled with boring realism which is a plus. 5. Doom (1993). This game never gets boring for me and is pretty much perfect. It may seem archaic now but I first really played the game only a few years ago and despite being used to modern games, I had a blast. My favorite genre is medieval fantasy. But it's rarely done as well as I would want and seems to be pretty bottom of the barrel in terms of quality. But when it's done well, I notice.
