Now I don't care who says "metal is satans music blah blah" it's not. Music is nothing in it's own sense. Notes do not sway to God or Satan or what have you.

However, one of my favorite bands is suicide silence.

Here are two of their songs.

SUICIDE SILENCE - You Only Live Once (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - YouTube

SUICIDE SILENCE - Bludgeoned (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - YouTube

A lot of their stuff is quite anti-christian to say the least. However they are the most brutal band I know of and I love it.

Should I stop listening to the music I love?

If you are not a Christian, you are not obligated to live like a Christian. The music of Suicide Silence or other similar bands is not at war with the Holy Spirit in you if the Holy Spirit is not in you, so perhaps you would not experience any adverse effects.....

Talitha: To your comment, it appears everything that's happened since that time when I worked @ hardee's is pointing to the fact that the HS left me to myself. It's quite a depressing thought however I've become a very angry person in general. Perhaps it's fate I was designed for destruction in the first place. Unrelenting rage.

But one thing I've learned is I'm better off smoking pot, at least pot keeps me calm and level headed. Staying sober/clean tends to bring out my anger a lot more often than not. And I've grown cold and I'm growing colder. I'm learning that to survive this cold world is to become like ice.

Leat: It would appear by your words that the music you are listening to is keeping the fire of your rage alive, not letting it burn itself out. And that can happen. The Holy Spirit will not remain in a room where other spirits are welcomed, but if you welcome the Holy Spirit, the others will flee like the darkness flees when we switch on a light.

Pot is not the devil; it is just something people do who have no rest inside. When the Holy Spirit is welcomed, we do not need intoxication. The Bible says that wine and strong drink (and I might add intoxication in general) is for those who are dying or who have no hope.

There are only two ways to deal with the cruelties and absurdities of the world - we can do as you say you have done - shut off our hearts and become in the words of the Pink Floyd song "comfortably numb"...... OR allow the Holy Spirit to come in and change us, change our hearts, our desires, our tastes, our opinions to be like God's so that we can become part of His solution.

I do not think you are too far gone. Not at all.

I like some Suicide Silence, but prefer Whitechapel, to be honest. But trashcore/metalcore/whatever you wanna call it is kinda fun to listen to - though they don't tend to be the most talented musicians. haha

Actually, this is some of the most instrumentally complicated music that there is. And the screaming is not just screaming. It actually requires a vast amount of technique so that it sounds right and doesn't hurt you! So, yeah it's actually very skilled!

Oh I know what it is like, I listen to a fair amount of it. And screaming is extremely difficult to master without damage to vocal chords (I can do it somewhat, but not great). I also play some of it...if only a little. Been in and out of metal and hardcore groups since early in high school.

The fact remains, frankly, they are not the best instrumentalists (talent or ability) by a long shot. Listen to more progressive groups, even while maintaining the same levels of intensity, and you find much more talent. [But that is just my opinion and take on it.]
