  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please forgive me for posting this thread a second time here in One Bread, One Body, but people really slammed me in the Fellowship forum. :( The Mods can trash that one if they want. Anyways, I hope it can actually now be fun while it's in this forum. Here are my posts...

What is your guardian angel like? Mine's name is Bela, and he looks like a wolf. I can imagine him walking with me and looking out for me sometimes. :)

I like to have Bela by my side while I'm in the woods. He makes me feel at home and safe there. He also helps keep the baddies away. Awww, I'm so outdoorsy. :D

Sometimes though, Bela can change into the standard human with wings image, and can hold me up, let me "fly", talk to me, keep me safe, etc...

Mine? My guardian angel is that I'm such a skeptic that my friends who believe in magic ask me not to come near them when they want to do rituals, because I Just Don't Believe. :) As such, I obviously can't name or describe a guardian angel... but I don't fear much.

I never thought about it. I know I have one, but never gave much time to thinking about his name or what he looks like.

My usual conception of an angel is guy about twenty feet high, in a white robe and a blinding aura of light, with long blonde hair combed straight back from his face, which looks sort of like a combination of John Tesch's and Fabio's. Bulging biceps, a serious, not-taking-any-cr@p-from-anybody expression, and one humungous sword.

A book I read by Peter Kreeft one time about angels describes them as huge, and they are warriors. Somebody asked him how they could tell if they ever met an angel, and he said, "If you see one, believe me, you'll know!" People in the Scriptures don't fall flat on their faces in front of an angel for nothing.

Beloved spouse has a draft plan for a very interesting comic book in which there are angels. Unfortunately, it's too long and complicated to express. One of the ideas was that an angel would look insubstantial, but things would shatter and disintegrate when it passed through them. It doesn't look insubstantial because *it's* not real; it looks insubstantial because, by comparison to an angel, *matter* isn't real.

BTW, there's a wondeful story titled _Damiano_ (I may have spelled that wrong) by R. A. MacAvoy (I may have also spelled that wrong) about a young man who summons an angel. A beautiful story on the question of salvation.

That sounds cool. But of course, you know I am a literature student with express interest in myth.

Seriously, that's a good concept. Although I'm much more a fan of fantasy than gothic.

Okay, I'm obviously dim. What exactly is the alleged problem? You brought this up here for hopes that you'd get fewer people beating on you for what, believing in angels? Preferring to have names for entities you believe exist? Trusting God to protect you? I'm still not seeing what you've done that's so horrible.

I know St. Michael is there for me.  I like to think he's all mine :D .  One of the neatest things I've seen in my life is a photograph that appears to have an Angel carrying the soul of a dead teenage female away from the scene of a wreck.  About four or five years ago, the Arkansas State Police worked a wreck in Carroll County (hilly and curvy).  A car crossed the road and hit another one head on, ejecting the teenage female driver.  She was DOA.  Anyway, the ASP (as most police down here do) took photographs of the scene and one of the photos was of the ejected body in a field.  When the Trooper had the photo developed, this one he didn't turn into evidence.  He started showing all of us the picture and asked us what we thought.  Faintly, it looked like an Angel was cradling the soul of the deceased and was ascending towards heaven.  I kid you not.  It was really neat.

That is amazing.

I believe there are angels around us. I imagine large, powerful beings who are also infinitely gentle. I wouldn't want to meet an angry angel. That would definitely be bad. I also think (re:the quote above) that we may not always know if we meet an angel. Don't the Scriptures say something about entertaining angels unaware?

As for angels names...I only know the angels named in the bible. My personal favorite is Raphael. Of course, I'm very fond of Michael, too, as he is my husband's namesake and personal protector. Every day when he leaves the house, I try not to think about what could happen to him, but I just ask Michael to go with him and keep him safe. And my husband wears a St. Michael medal on a chain with his badge.

*sigh*. The hardest part of Christianity, for me, has always been the Christians. God and I get along fine.

Oh, sheesh. Adam's doing the "only things taught in the Bible". I've asked for a Scriptural citation; I'd like to see him find one, I've never seen anyone come closer than the Timothy passage saying all Scripture is good.

Well, I'm glad you started this here humblejoe...because the way people reacted the last time I said something about my Guardian Angel and the how people were reacting to you...I was afraid to post!

I don't think I know what my Guardian Angel looks like...but I know they drive a bright yellow jeep.

Several years ago my family was driving home from my great aunt's house on Christmas Eve. It had started to snow and parts of the road were covered with a thin snowy layer. It wasn't blowing away and it wasn't thick enough that you could get some traction out of...so people were sliding all over the road...including us. My sister and I were in the backseat praying constantly for at least 30 minutes.

Anyway, while we were sliding...this yellow jeep flys by us. At first we were like, "Is he nuts??" But then we drove up a bit and parked on the side of the road was the yellow jeep. We drove awhile longer and the snow started to stop. Then the yellow jeep flew by us again...never to be seen again. And the rest of our drive was eventless.

So, I know my Guardian Angel drives a yellow jeep. :)
