  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Who is your favorite character that you created. Describe him/her and tell why you like them so much.

Mine is an elf named Sennal. More specificly she is a Southern Elf, which means she has darker skin and Green hair and eyes.

Through all my characters she is the smartest and is the only one who can use sorcery. She fits the stereotype elf in the sense that she is extremely prideful and thinks her race is better than any other and won't eat meat and lives for a long time. She holds several other races in pure contempt actually and goes beyond to thinking she is the smartest person in the world and even looks down on other elves (especially one of her traveling buddies who seems to have lost his Elfness after a war.) and her teachers.

Despite her infinate knowledge she has little experience in the real world and doesn't work well under stress. But her magic is as big as her ego so she's a valuable asset.

What makes this actually amusing is that by elven standerds she is young, only 21. This doesn't seem like much to us but for elves, who start their slow aging process at 10, this slows her aging so that to a human she still look like she is 13 or 14. Its kinda funny seeing a know-it-all kid and the others tease her about it.

Over time she is dissillusioned about her race and grows a sarcastic streak but is generally gentler and more understanding to others. Her power continues to expand and eventually it almost consumes her (literaly). And she is consumed with grief when she discovers her people had been wiped out by an enemy force.

I like her because she was the first character I created when I first started writing. I made her into a rather unlikable character at first, but I put so much of myself in her that she mellowed out over time. She's trustworthy and loyal, if a bit ambitious and power-hungry. I always see her saying what I would say if I was there and seems to be an extention of myself. That's why I like her.

I like this woman named Kea that I created not that long ago. I'm not saying that she's my favorite of all my characters, but she's the funnest to write for.

What makes her fun to write for is that she's so vibrant. I can make her outrageous, with the caked on make-up, but I can also show different sides of her, and it all seems to fit. She teases, flirts, and flounces around, while the rest of my characters are a little more serious and walk.

Tariel.

She is in no way autobiographical ^_^ Actually, she was Tariel before I was :p

Anyway, she's one of the elite of her race (an original, magical, human-like race) and is more than a little bit arrogant.

She spent many years training under the main villan of my story, so sometimes the ethics of what she does are questionable; but she doesn't understand what she's doing wrong. She actually thinks she's being a good girl ^_^

She seventeen years old, and sometimes she's mature, and sometimes she's not. She tends to get on peoples nerves and under their skin, but really doesn't care.

Underneath it all, she's atually a very kind person, but she had been raised to surpress that.

When Tariel was under the age of six she went to go live with and train under her uncle. But when she was in her early teens, she discovered that her uncle had murdered her mother, her aunt, and supposedly her cousin. She confronted him about it, and at the time believed herself strong enough to challenge him. He defeated her and left her for dead. Why he didn't kill her was a mystery that she never understood.

Anyway, she managed to escape to her home city where she grew all the more determined to strengthen herself so that she would never loose again.

That's Tariel in a nutshell ^_^

My favorite character is Sarah Anne Bettencourt. In the first book, she is an atheist that comes to Christ during the 1830s in the Old West (America).

I love her because when I created her, I shaped her atheistic tendencies, thoughts, etc., after a friend of mine who was an atheist at the time (and has since come to Christ!)...I also love her because she holds the elements of character that I always wanted to have...plus, she's part of the most amazing family ever... :)

Oh, and course, there's Aaron Philip Hunter. He just happens to be the perfect man...he's Sarah's man.

Tall, thin, wiry, dark brown hair, big brown eyes, very gentle, loving, sincere, etc. And I personally love him, because when I was fifteen (and created him), I put all the best elements into him from all of my closest guy friends, and the other important men in my life...so, he's a little bit of Dad, a little bit of my brothers, a little bit of my camp director, a little bit of my pastor, that sort of thing...

And I won't tell you what happens to him, except that I CAN'T BELIEVE the story DEMANDED HE DIE!!! (Why do ALL the good characters have to die??? *sigh*)

And another fave is Goldie (from one of my musicals) because she is based on a young girl that I have worked at camp with...she is mentally and physically disabled...I love this character because she's like Danielle, but also because as I write about her, I get to look more closely into what Danielle's world must be like...

oh, well if we're introducing several characters, I would like you all to meet Kayhin. His decent is somewhat questionable--rumour has it that his mother was a watch--but it doesn't seem to bother him much. He dresses quite simply (he is broke after all) and always has his left arm bared. His left sleeve was always cropped off, and the shoulder is ragged. He does this to accomodate Eyste, his dragon. The small creature latches itself to Kayhin's arm and encircles it. He is so used to it that his is no hinderence. Sometimes when stealth and secrecy are important he will entrust Eyste to his best friend Iecan. Eyste is somehow connected to Kayhin's lingeage, but I'm not entirely sure how ^_^

my favorite character thus far in all of my writing projects is Samm....her real name is Morgan Samantha but everyone calls her Samm and she's like, well, my novel is kinda my own life story in a way and Samm, along with her father and various other characters in the book, is kinda me in many ways. She's fun and I like her best because she has plenty of reason to be in a LOT of emotional and psychological pain yet chooses to be vibrant, upbeat and just totally like a little bird: spreads her wings, flies far and wide and sings loudly.

I just love her because she also has black curly hair and green eyes (my biggest envy in life....I have the green eyes but *brown* hair <rolls:eyes>). Anyways, I just love her a lot and she is very fun to write about and also to see where she takes the story.

My favorite character...hmm...*scratches chin thoughtfully*

I'd have to say I have two. They're sisters and kind of remind me of myself and my sister. Kind of.
The older sister is vivacious and outgoing and speaks her mind no matter what, is very loyal and protective of her family, she craves adventure and hates domestic chores. The younger is quiet, reserved, loves cooking and keeping house, and is quite maternal (they have several younger siblings, and as they're "possibly" orphans, she takes care of them). In a nutshell, they're opposites, but they complement each other, and are each other's best friend.

My favorite protagonist is Rasco. He is a dragon in hiding among humans. He's very proud of his race, that's on the edge of exstinction. He is blunt and rude. He's a cold because of his past has forced him to be, but as he starts to travel with two other dragons, he looses up and lets himself be discovered. He has in his possesion the magical sword BattleSworn, but is afriad of it's magic because his race was killed by a magic sword.

My favorite antagonist is Vonmar. He's very calculating. Always stricking at the right moment and never lets up. He knows when to cut his loses and isn't afriad to sacrife...even himself. Not much is known about Vonmar's past, but he is rumored to have been Satan's steed before he was kicked out for raping Satan's concubines.

I think I actually have three favorite characters. I love them all, so I can't pick just one favorite. They're sisters, named Heather, Raylene, and Lucy. Heather and Raylene are identical twins, and Lucy is their older sister. I see aspects of my personality in all three of them, especially in Raylene and Lucy. That wasn't something I did intentionally, that's just how they turned out. For instance, like me, Raylene is very proud and very stubborn, and she has a temper. Her twin, Heather, is gentler, though she also has her share of pride and stubborness. They're different personalities, but they're best friends. Lucy's bold, and has a hedonistic streak, and she's not afraid to speak her mind. Anyway, these three sisters are my favorite characters. And Raylene's husband, Randall, is the man of my dreams!

Seth Minks from my first novel, Crimegates

Seth Minks is a Jewish Mafia leader: he is well-cultured, kind, and non-violent without many cares in the world. He is in his early 60's, a recreational drug-user, and prone to visions of the ghosts of ancestors from his homeland, Poland.

** This character is based roughly upon my real Grandfather, a Jew, who escaped Nazi Germany and came to Chicago where he was a Captain in the Mafia. He also robbed banks with my biological grandmother; both were jailed in Illinois State Prison where my Mother was born. My Mother was soon after adopted by a family in Ohio. I have never met my biological Grandmother or Grandfather.

Mine has to be my character Mel from the book I am writing called Overcome.

Me and Mel are very similiar but have a few differences, Mel is a very screwed up teenager with a few mental disorders. She is also very loyal to her friends and hates her parents. Although she is loyal she has the belief that she can make life on her own and does not need friends herself.

Meg is a journalist fresh out of college. She's a brilliant reporter, and that's the only reason her boss keeps her on. She doesn't care a whit about formality, and she comes to the office every day in jeans and combat boots. Her coworkers usually catch her with her feet up on her desk playing with shiny objects - with a flawless copy of her finished assignment tucked neatly at the corner of her station.
Gotta love her.

My favorite character so far is Rob Anderson, a 20something former foster kid who's a bit of a klutz and has a soft heart for children and those who are hurting - especially for those who try to hide the hurt, like my protagonist.

I have a great love and devotion to one of my oldest characters that I created when I was eleven years old. He grew with me as I got older and everything I experienced, he experienced too. I love him.

His name is Michael Jerome Carruthers. He is English with brown hair and blue eyes and has pretty much always stayed the same age. Fifteen. He comes from a wealthy family and has six siblings. His father, an Air Force Pilot, died when he was eleven and his older brother Sebastian killed himself. He has a really tough life but he's a fighter. He can survive anything.
