  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How much attention do you pay to your child's drawings?

Do you observe their progress as they grow older? Do you suggest ways that they can make their drawings better or just let them be and figure it out on their own?

I've got Pinkguard's Father's Day card sitting on my desk that she drew for me. There's a picture of what is supposed to be the two of us. I'm paying special attention to something that I've been noticing in her drawings for a long time.

Every person that she draws has eyes, ears, a nose, a mouth...... nipples and a belly button. So basically, they're never wearing clothes. :D And the figners and toes are as long as can be.

I love it.

my kids both love to draw. They draw all day pretty much. My son gets very immersed in it.

i find it hard to pay attention to all of their masterpieces, most of it ends up in the recylce and they find it. I feel so guilty sometimes, but we just don't have room to keep it all.

I love looking at my kids drawings. Ds is 6, so they are getting pretty interesting and intricate. I do keep some of the best ones, but don't have room to keep them all.

I try the best I can not to offer suggestions and only offer suggestions if he asks (eg. What should I draw?, or what colour should I make - ?)

Dd is only 2 so hers are mostly squiggles. I don't offer suggestions to dd at all, I am just excited when she feels that she would like to draw with the item not chew on it - yes, she is actually nearly 3 and still chews a lot of things.

I pay attention more to OS drawings. Both kiddo's enjoy drawing but OS tends to be more um, creative:sorry: and some are just very odd :p

Do you observe their progress as they grow older? Do you suggest ways that they can make their drawings better or just let them be and figure it out on their own?

Yes I observe the progress as they get older although YS has progressed a lot sooner/quicker than OS. I don't compare in front of them or out loud but have noticed it when they sit together and draw :)

I only suggest ideas if they ask. SOmetimes they ask for ideas or help and I offer what I can to them.

I don't keep all their drawings. Actually I have kept very few. I know I've kept their first few drawings but after that I store them in a large box and filter through about 2-4X a year. I did the same with OS school projects. Through out the year I threw them all in one big box and now that school is over, I've filtered through and kept about 10 items to place in OS memory book.

oh yes, I love my daughters drawings. She seems to be fixated on drawing faces for a while, she's nearly 3. ALthough she sometimes draws them on the side for some reason, and she's just started adding in arms and legs (loooong lines sticking out from the head!) and teeth!
I keep some, but the one's I really want to keep I take a digital photo of.

On a similar note, she wrote her name for the first time the other day (copied me) and I was sooooooo proud of her! It was legible too!

My son hates to draw or color, but my daughter loves it. Sometimes she will draw and color all day. I think she draws better than me, haha. So I don’t really make many suggestions—occasionally she will ask me for help, and I’m like—I don’t know, just try your best. I really should get her into some sort of art class that can give her better guidance than what I can offer.

I love to see what my boys draw/paint/craft. My boys are 2 1/2, almost 5 and almost 6. it's interesting to see the difference between their styles, and how they progress over time.

Do you observe their progress as they grow older? Do you suggest ways that they can make their drawings better or just let them be and figure it out on their own?
i do observe their progress...from squiggles to stick fugures to trying to draw animals and dinosaurs :D But unless they ask, i let them do whatever they want. I want them to develop their immagination and their own style.

BTW...that is too cute about your dd's pictures redguard!

If my son can resist chewing on the crayons or eating the paper long enough I get colorful dots on paper.

I did notice my nephew's drawings get better and change over time and go from people to cars. Detailed car drawings became the thing for uh the next 2-3 years. Now going on 10 he's too "old" to color so now he can draw but only if it's because he wants to design cars when he grows up.
