  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What a fun question.

The first one that came to mind was Frozen, because a love of a sister is beautiful.
The serious side of me thought of Decalogue V.
The goofy/ family side of me Parental Guidance.
The imaginary/whimsical side of me Narina.
The kick butt side of me Karate Kid.
The fashionista in me The Devil Wears Prada.

Just five? :bigeye:

1. One True Thing - My mom doesn't have cancer, like this woman does... but it describes so well the pain my mom goes through, and honestly how the daughter gets along with the mom and dad. It shows a lot of what my mom has had to go through.

2. Marley & Me - This one hits so close to home I can barely watch the last half of the movie. My dalmatian was my world and as she got older and barely kicking we had to put her down and in this movie they had to do the same. The movie is funny and silly at first but really shows the love the family has for each other and the dog, and the dog has so much love for his people.

3. A Beautiful Mind - If anyone hasn't seen this, they need to. It's a beautiful true story and a love story to boot. It is one of my absolute favorites that I would recommend over and over. It's sad, funny, insightful and just mesmerizing.

4. Marvin's Room - :bigeye: Great movie. It's all about how family reacts to each other, pain, love, and illness. It's just a rollercoaster of emotions. But it's got such a good story line. I just love it. And it brings back great memories watching it with my mom. A must recommend! :D

5. Silver Linings Playbook - I love this movie. I hate that it has so much cursing in it, but oh my goodness.. this movie is amazing. It was so well made, and again deals with illness, love, and family. Overcoming obstacles, and learning how to love again.

Can you tell a trend I have? lol

All of mine are creepy films. I wouldn't say it's a representation of my personality, but rather what stimulates me intellectually.

Nosferatu- A true classic. If you haven't seen it, you must.

The Changeling- My favorite and in my opinion the greatest film ever made. The story and plot are pure gold.

The Cat People- This was a low budget B movie when it was released in 1944 and was not critically acclaimed, but has become a cult classic over the years, and for good reason.

The Innocents- Another great film with a great plot and interesting twist.

Metropolis- A classic film if there ever was one. No explaination needed, really.

Only five?

1. Amazing Grace - The story of William Wilberforce. If you want to understand the struggles I go through with my faith, this movie does a good job of it.

2. Fight Club - A raunchy ride of a film, but if you want to understand what mania is like for me, the relationship between the Narrator and Tyler Durden is a good description (with lust playing the role of Marla).

3. The Last Samurai - Historical accuracy be condemned, this is a purely fictional tale that happens to illustrate my desires for honor.

4. A Beautiful Mind - You want to understand the chaos my brain experiences? The hallucinations? This movie is pretty accurate.

5. Edward Scissorhands - I often feel just as awkward as Edward is, and my story mirrors his in many ways.

6. The Silver Linings Playbook - A film about a man with bipolar disorder, with fairly accurate depictions of what the disorder is like.

7. House, M.D. - It's not a movie, but if you watch the series and pay attention to the struggles House endures, you'll understand my passive-aggressive nature and the self-deprecation it brings. It's something I fight, but often I lose the battle.

1. Elizabethtown - because I'm introspective like the main character learns to be.

2. Last of the Mohicans and/or The Patriot - because I'm obsessed with early American history ca. mid-17th-century to the turn of the 19th century. Especially the last 50 years of the 18th century and the events surrounding the French & Indian War and the American Revolution.

3. The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings franchise - because I have an expansive imagination and I love adventure.

4. How To Train Your Dragon - I often feel like the main character.

5. SLC Punk! - Because I have a tendency to be rebellious despite the fact that I know I'm going to end up like everyone else.

I seriously *heart* this thread. ...Can't wait to address some of everyone's lists later on. I'm on my phone right now, so...

To Kill a Mockingbird - It is, in its simplicity, such a profound, beautiful, heartbreaking story that everyone should first read, and then watch the 1962 film.

Now, Voyager - In a strange way I can relate to the lead character in this 1942 film. It's real...it's touching...it's, in a sense, about finding one's self.

Edward Scissorhands - Another character I find that I relate to in certain ways. ...Edward is naive, innocent, and deeply misunderstood.

I'll have to finish tomorrow. Great thread, RJ.

None. To understand me, you must understand that I just don't really get the love of movies and would rather play on the computer or read a book.

Now, five books, that I could do. Hmmm.
This right here. I'm really not a movie person. The only ones I could think of would be the Jeeves & Wooster series with Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry and a small handful of Twilight Zone episodes. Laurie's Bertie encapsulates many facets of my personality, and some of my hopes, fears, and comforts are contained in that distant place just around the corner, that place we like to call, The Twilight Zone.

"The Sound of Music" and "Secondhand Lions."

Both are important keys to understanding my family and the worldview I grew up with. The Sound of Music is the movie to which my siblings and I are often compared. "Secondhand Lions" portrays an attitude that a lot of my family members have.

1. Wit- anyone who has had to watch someone they love die will relate to this and be moved by the perspective. Those who haven't faced this yet will gain a better understanding of the people around them.

2. Vanilla Sky- Warning: Really graphically sexual movie (I wish they could have taken that out), but offers a really true perspective on life. It's about the Sweet and the Sour.

3. LOST- Ok, not technically a movie but I had to include it. I am a LOST junkie and you have to be able to hang with LOST conversations if you want to understand me. Really great lessons to be learned too, the biggest for me being you can spend your whole life looking for answers but in the end they don't matter and it's really about the relationships you made and kept along the way.

4. Boys Over Flowers- also not a movie, but another obsession of mine. We'll call it a perspective on what I find romantic. Gosh, I'm bad at this Movie list making..

5. Pretty much every Disney Animated Film I was raised on this stuff. I make references like you wouldn't believe and frequently break out into musical numbers- be warned!

The Graduate- My life right now just feels a lot like this movie, sans the relationship with the older woman. If I'm doing this list in a few years it may not be on it.

Bambi- Mommie Issues

Look Back in Anger- Richard Burton's huge rants are very representative of my internal monologue

Rushmore-The main character is a lot like me when I was in high school.

2001- A Space Odyssey- It's just my favorite movie and I couldn't think of another one. The first four were what really sprung to mind.

Hrmm...

1. The Rocky series, by far! I love what Stallone does with the character. And a lot of memories.
2. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - Do I really need a reason for this? I find it to be a unique movie experience. Enjoy it every time. And, well, it has a lot of memories attached to it.
3. 500 Days of Summer - Also has a lot of memories attached to it, and it's a quirky movie. I like it.
4. Monty Python And The Holy Grail - 'Nuff said. And memories attached to it.
5. Toy Story - Childhood in a nutshell.

To be honest I mostly chose these due to various memories attached to them all. I'm really not a movie person, and generally only watch them with people. So...these simply remind me of great times with great people.

I'm throwing in five television shows, because those I've been a bit more dedicated to. ;D

1. Chuck - this was the only show I ever considered important enough to catch new episodes of when they came on. Everything else would be DVRed or rented. This will forever hold a place in my heart. Or something like that.
2. Buffy The Vampire Slayer - AHHHHH. Brilliant. x3
3. Sherlock - Okay, so this is fairly new and whatnot, but I find it to be a wonderful portrayal of an amazing character.
4. Adventure Time - These 10 minute episodes can really pack a lot in...clean humor (that's actually funny), a lot of emotionalism, and even great themes. This show amazes me.
5. Boy Meets World - A lot of good themes about the value of people. Friends, family, relationships, etc, etc.
