Sitting in the back row pew dressed in Sunday best including white gloves, perky hat that accents the outfit and a purse that matches both, a shining pair black paten shoes, better known as "Mary Jane's", hands folded in the lap. Such a proper young lady only taking sneak peaks of the exquisite ladies dressed in their finery. Mom and Dad sat hand in hand just to the left. Their eyes fixed straight ahead on the short man dressed in black. Preacher Johnson was an elderly may with grey beard who was waving the Bible in his hand shouting There is no GOD except the LORD GOD; a just GOD and a Savior; there is none beside the LORD GOD. Look unto Him, and you shall be saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am GOD, and there is none else. (Isaiah 45:21-22). Believe on Him or you will go to hell. Now lets hear the choir sing. The choir got up to go to the front of the narthex as Preacher Johnson reclined in the tall backed wooden chair. Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus filled the church like the aroma of fresh flowers after a spring rain. The peace and contentment was returning after the Hell and Brimstone sermon. The congregation followed the choir out the door to shake the Preacher mans hand and thank him for a much need sermon. Worshippers greet each other with a hug and a kiss of acceptance. Sometimes there was even a picnic on the lawn after church.
A time when it was fashionable to be a believing Christian. Just to mention the name of Jesus was a customary occurrence. Everyone understood what was being talked about, and no one challenged or questioned the existence of Jesus and a persons life with Him. There were no testimonies uplifting man, only praise for a Jesus who was there for all. Families all worshipped together, prayed together, cried and sometimes even mourned all together in the name of Jesus. It was a time where live could be sustained knowing we all belong to the Family of GOD.
