• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been quit for a year and a half.

Did it cold turkey. The impetus for me was purchasing a house. All of the sudden, my desire to quit was coupled with my need for money, and there you have it, I quit.

It wasn't easy. For the next two weeks all i could think about was smokes and it took about 8 or 9 months before my need for the habit went away.

Just believe you can do it and remember it gets easier with every successive day. Don't give in, even once, or you have to start all over again.

Luck to you.

Does your country have nicotine patches or Commit lozenges (nicotine lozenges)? The Commit lozenges seemed to help me and were pretty easy to use at work. Don't stop trying. It took me 7 times... I still crave cigarettes sometimes, but, it's been 4 years since I quit.
My Mother-in-law waited too long and her lungs are really bad. She has been in and out of the hospital and must take oxygen with her everywhere she goes.
My Dad died from heart disease related to smoking and other bad habits.
Do not give up. Keep trying until you quit.
Praying for you... :prayer:

try to quit naturally if you can. but by all means use a product to assist you if need be. My fiance works in a hospital and she said that she read something about statistically, if you use an aide to quit smoking (like patch, gum, etc), you are more likely to return to smoking than someone who does it naturally. I have no clue if this is a fully accurate statement or not, but just a random tid-bit. :)
