Hello, I'm fairly new here.
Any other Christians on this forum writing/recording secular music with a Christian worldview?
I play on the worship team at my church. But when it comes to songwriting, I'm not writing Christian music.

Here's a link to my SoundCloud page.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

For what it is worth I am writing a secular novel which has a Christian worldview i.e. no sex before marriage.

I'd say that's worth a lot.

Tell us how long you have been doing that and how you dealt with the stigma of a Christian writing secular (worldly) work?

This is my first novel which I started writing in the middle of last year. it is a coming of age novel of a group of teenage boys and the things they go through and how they deal with them. ATM the title is The Speedo Boys as it centres a lot around swimming and boating and the beach.

As it is my first, I don't know how it is going to go out there in a secular world, but I am hoping that there is a publisher out there who sees the value of what I write as I have avoided preaching by having subjects dealt with in conversations between the boys. One of them is a Catholic boy who relates well to friends who are not involved with the church. His best mate is a non-believer who he lives next door to.

I have received much attention over the unique lyric writing.
Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I am a bit of a philistine when it comes to music. other than Christain I only listen to classical and trad jazz so I am no expert.

Sufficient to say, your music would beat a lot of secular music hands down. The little that I have listened to is often, tuneless, screechy and devoid of any music content. I call it a cacophony of sound.

I guess it all gets down to the old maxim of finding a need and filling it so there must be a spot out there for you.

One of my favorite bands, Killswitch Engage, are not Christian but they have a very positive message and have never swore in any songs.
That's a great example. Thanks.

A person does not need to be a Christian to understand that a positive message
is good for everyone, and that using profanity only proves a lack of vocabulary.

Never heard of them which shows my ignorance.

What I appreciate about Lutheranism is that we do not have this understanding there is a particular kind of "Christian" secular music, art, or literature. If a Christian wants to create rap, heavy metal, or salacious crime novels with profanity, violence, and suggestive themes, they are free to do so according to their own conscience. They should do so in a way that is authentic to their subject matter, demonstrating integrity and responsibility. As Luther might put it, a cobbler should make a good shoe at a decent price, not a bad shoe with a cross on it.

Just to be clear, I am not trying to slap a "Christian" label on a type of music,
or to label my own work that way. My music is clearly secular, but is written from
my worldview, in the same way a person with another worldview would write.

I love that Luther quote. Thanks.
