Writing Lyrics help?

Hey people,
I've been in our band for a while now and i usually compose the music that we write (me and my other friend) and we can write some pretty good stuff, music that is. But our music is bland by itself, it needs lyrics. Now i am doing an extra course in english this year at school and people say i can write really well.
So i thought well putting lyrics to music will be easy. So i tried and it didn't sound write.
Is there anyone experienced out there who can give me some tips on writing lyrics for our band.
Its strange, we like hard rock/metal but also write a lot of jazz stuff cause we like that to.
Anyway any advice on writing lyrics would be helpful thanks

Hey! Ask the Lord to anoint your words, to Give you the words....if you have a few good lyrics and theme, ask the Lord to expound on it...because without His anointing it won't do sqat for anyone...

The Lord has given me many words for songs/as well as the melody and those are the best songs I have...they truly stay with me and help me. Sounds like you have talent, now take that gift and lay it at the Master's feet and see what he will do in you and your band...He will take you to Higher Heights than you and your group could imagine...Hope this is helpful!

well it looks like i have to opposite problem, i have song lyrics coming outta my ears, but find getting a decent melody the hardest part,

Perhaps we can trade some material ??

although for help i usually find that all my lyrics usually come from a long prayer session.

I also found that taking verses out of the bible and putting them to the correct music makes a cool effect

yay , haven't really decided on a band name yet, not everone in my current band is a christian so i am thinking of starting a different all christian band... n e ways haven't got any good names yet but i'm sure god shall bless me with one...
