  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For the last few weeks I have been trying to accomplish a school project of writing to a US soldier stationed in the mid-east. This is really hard! I can't so much as find a place that will give you a soldier's name and address to correspond with! Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this accomplished or know someone I can write to?

USAF is absolutely right. There's no site that will have soldier's names or information listed. Things have changed a lot post 9/11. At one time there was something called "Any Service Member" started because of Abigail Van Buren (Dear Abby). That's probably before your time :D . But if I remember right, that program has been dropped and you now have to actually have the name of the soldier you write to.

I looked around and found this site: http://www.enduringresponse.com/

It looks like something that might have to be initiated by your teacher or school. It's a lot harder now but there's good reason for it.

There are actually websites for members of the military to go and chat and find friends

I think one is called militaryfriends.com
this might be a dating site, so please use caution! I wanted a penpal in the mid east too, but it was difficult to find one. Try a search on the net for Military Penpals or something like that and see what it comes up with.

with most sites you will have to register before it will let you contact anyone.

I think the contacting your local base is a good idea. they will most likely be helpful.

go to military.com, you find some links on the main page...

as for blessed are thee... what's you're point? is that a political statement? If it is, just come out and say it. Your cryptic random scripture quoting isn't exactly sparking conversation.

Do you know anyone who has a relative who's deployed? That might be the easiest way. My church sends care packages every week to my brother in law and my cousin's husband. They then set out the goodies to share with the rest of their unit. Ask around your school or church. Surely someone has a family member who's deployed. Good luck.

Love, Heather

I can send you this link, on second thought I can't give out specific names and addresses on the internet, but though this website you can send mail to units in Iraq and Afghanistan. Don't forget also that all soldiers in the other 120 countries we have troops like Kuwait and South Korea need love too. :)
