  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Would you kill someone?

I don't know about you but I have killed a man.

Here's how it happened: The Thoughts of Schmurtis: I Killed a Man...

Oh for crying out loud. Yes, you're totally guilty for killing someone who, if he did exist, died almost two thousand years before you were born, because of your innate human nature which you never had a choice to have or not have because an all knowing, all wise being made you imperfect and flawed. You killed that guy by existing! How could you!? You monster!

For all of the author's hand-wringing, I wonder how he feels about more recent atrocities.

Aye. How about 'I maimed a child because I'm wearing cheap sneakers made by child labor in unsafe conditions.' Or, 'I let a person starve when I spent money to buy more food than I was going to eat and then tossed it when it went bad, instead of giving that money to a good cause.' Or, 'I paid someone to commit genocide and slavery and murder when I bought a ridiculously expensive but ultimately useless rock for my wife/girlfriend/significant other.'

Really, there are lots of people that members of the first world are guilty of harming inadvertently. We don't need to feel guilty for stuff that went down before we were even born which we haven't had anything to do with as well.

For any reason

Well, they'd have to really have it coming, and I'd have to be short on options.

Murder isn't ever really justified in a wealthy, just society, but outside the power and influence of such a society it might be.

Plus I guess fear and or anger could always push a person into a reptile-brain, irrational fight-or-die state.

I totally agree, especially in the first world with all the luxuries we have, we should be more conscious of how the things we personally do effect others and the world at large.

No you didn't. According to the Bible some romans did it a couple of thousand years ago. You didn't do it and you're not responsible for it.

Peter :)

To kill and to subdue are two different situations. I may use a gun to shot a person under a certain circumstances. But I don't mean to kill him. I just want to disable him.

So, would I shot a person? I might. If I am a sharp shooter, I will not aim at his heart or head.
