Would writing/wanting a story like this be blasphemous.

Or would actually wanting it to happen be blasphemous?

"Vampires, Werewolves, these are things of nightmares and fairytales. Although we deal with them on a weekly basis. There numbers are growing and we are the only ones to stop them. We are born with the ability to turn into another species of animals, and when not in that form we have increased strength, agility, and perception. We deal with werewolves and vampires, simply because they try to exterminate humanity. It originated when a clan of poor Irishmen decided they needed money. They made contracts with demons, in return for riches they must kill 52 humans. Some didn't have the heart to carry this out and a curse was placed on them. The curse of the Werewolf. Every night they would turn into hideous monsters. Craving for the flesh of humans, those humans that had gotten away even with the littlest of bites, with be turned into a new generation of werewolf forever tortured by their evil existence. The ones that completed the demon contract have been granted extended life, immensely powerful abilities and can enslave normal humans. These are vampires, the multiply in number by feeding on human plasma. When they feed they push the soul out and replace it with part of their own. In time this part grows in power becoming a full fledged vampire in years. The forced out souls end up in either heaven or hell, depending on their lives when they "died". Every human has the chance of giving birth to one of our kind. Though if two of us copulate, it results in a normal human being born. We were created to stop these evil threats on humanity. Our job is not over until they exist no more. Their numbers are growing."

Well, I understand the imaginative aspects, and the relevance to today's society. These creatures have become the language of a generation.

But I was shocked a few years ago when looking at the choices of contemporary Christian fiction -- the selection I looked at was nearly 80% was in similar mythical setting, and many promoted magic. I wondered if each author, one by one, went through this internal questioning and giving in.

Look at the impact that stories have on a culture. Twenty years ago, we did not have werewolf and vampire clubs. People challenging each other to drink blood, asking their dentist to reshape their teeth. Western hemisphere animism was tucked away in small regions, and communicating with spirits centered in small regions like Haiti, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and tribal territories.

We think we are not so gullible to be impacted by a story, but we are a stick-beans-in-your-ears human race.

We look at a challenge, and picture ourselves in that situation. We follow fascinations and take on new conflicts, for the adrenaline and entertainment. Something lands on our mind, and our brain begins to contrive ways to fit it into our environment.

Whether we want to admit it or not, a writer guides the reader's thoughts. They steer the user into familiar and unknown territory.

As a writer, consider what you are bringing into the world. Everything grows. One innocent story can turn into a Little Shop of Horrors, a Jumanji. A curiosity that takes on a life of its own.

Besides that, the vampire thing has been overdone. Maybe you could find something new that has similar edginess, without the internal conflict over whether it is God-approved.

Whatever is good... think on these things. The language of the people can change.

I think arts are fascinating and so does God. I know that all my experience of worldly art actually contributed to my vision of eternal life when "the penny dropped". I think all the art in the world contains a bit of truth which we can use to give praise to God, in fact everything in the world can be used to give praise to God. The ones who don't know God personally will never get to see undertones of truth, whereas those who do know God personally will always see the undertones of truth in art.

My personal feeling about the topic of vampires is that they drink blood to have eternal life - Christians drink wine in remembrance of Christ's blood to symbolise eternal life. I think vampire mythology is actually a form of mockery of Christianity but don't let that stop you!

I suggest you pray to God and consult His Word to find out if He supports your endeavour. It could just be that your story will be another opportunity for Him to use it as a seed which will bring someone closer to accepting Him - who knows?

I agree with oi_ants. I believe prayer with God first would be your best start. If after consulting with God, you feel it would be alright to write about them, maybe consider a different perspective on them. Maybe seeing them as cursed and showing the emptiness and hopelessness that comes from it. Then ending with their salvation through Jesus Christ and how they find peace and fulfillment doing God's work? Maybe something like that would change the way the life of the vampires and werewolves has been almost glorified and shift the glory to their salvation and overcoming the curse.

I have no desire to watch anything with vampires werewolves. I just have no interest. I don't think it is right for a Christian to watch those movies since it isn't biblical. Like that latest vampire craze.... whatever that film series is called. Watch a better movie like "The Visual Bible: Matthew". It is based on the NIV Bible.

I'm not trying to get it published or anything, I just like writing fantasy stories in my free time, Most of them include me in an alternate reality, though all of the have Christianity in them, I think I did that subconsciously.

A large number of fiction writers are Christian in free world nations (europe, us, etc).

They use metaphor to express their lives.

I am not one of those Christians who is quick to damn some author because of his fiction.

A lot of "secular" books, movies, and music out there are extremely Christian themed.

You should look at having such moral redeeming factors as:

heroics
love
sacrifice
nobility
championing of good over evil

And so on.

Some Christians rule out the redeeming value of modern fiction, thinking they do good by doing so. I disagree strongly. This leads to unfair judgment, even slanderous accusations against genuine Christians. That's the Devil's business. The word "Devil" means "Slanderer". "The Accuser of the Brethern".

The Pharisees were slanderers. The Inquistors were slanderers.

A core component of Christianity is to look beyond the material, see the metaphor, and not be judgmental.

Some can't accept this.

This is my viewpoint. I am extremely happy in it.

I don't think I'm dangerous. I know that anything I can come up with is 100% not real. And has no chance of happening. I just think that fantasy is more appealing than real life. I do this by writing stories, that I know are not real. I'm not trying to force it on anyone, I just like writing stories. I don't think of them as anything but fiction. I think I might want to be an author when I'm older. I don't look to much into these things. I just wanted to know if my writing stories was blasphemous because of their content.

I still pray and read the bible when I get the chance. And I know that whats in the bible is fact.
I've even been to a counselor and a psychiatrist when my mom started using again, that's when I decided to start strengthening my relationship with God. I don't write much anymore because my life has gotten better. It was just a coping mechanism I used to use, and even then I knew that all I wrote was anything but real.

Well what I've seen from Christians exercising free will: God looks at the heart. If you are contributing your art within the spirit of Christ and you are being pure in your motive then I would put my heart in the position of worship: give your efforts to the glory of God over and above pleasure for others. Of course you can still give your art to the pleasure of others, as long as your heart is in the right place.

I still think it's maybe a case that you're asking your fellow humans to provide God's judgement. Whether God wants to prevent certain contributions to earth is not our decision to make, you actually do have to see clearly eye-to-eye with God and be sure you're being 100% honest, not seeking to blaspheme the Lord (as I'm sure you never would).

God can use any material to glorify Himself when someone is seeking truth, and humans can use any material to worship God. It's all about having the heart in the right place and God never says "don't do this or that" unless you are seriously in danger of falling from His grace. He's most open-minded you know, you really should ask Him for the support you're looking for.
