Would it be moral not to have a report button in the forum?

I personally think the report button was grievously overused before its (temporary?) removal. I don't think I've encountered any conversation on these forums that would merit a report. I've considered it, once or twice, in anger - but generally it's far more productive to simply point out why someone is wrong, and allow them to continue making fools of themselves.

I think the only time it's warranted is when people say things like "You, cantata, are a disgusting immoral person who will die early in a pool of your own filth" (and mean it, of course). Things like that do occasionally get said, and I don't think there's much place for them here.

That said, I'm kind of glad it isn't there, too. Perhaps I can mention lesbians and God in the same sentence now.

But on a serious note, I don't like that it isn't there. In NCR we're being trolled rather viciously and I searched for that report button only to discover that it was MIA.

I was a mod in E&M for awhile, and I'll admit that most reports were really a back-handed way of shutting dissenting opinions down, but sometimes reporting is a necessary evil. When someone is trolling, threatening, or really horrendously flaming, those posts really shouldn't stay.
