  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It kind of reminds me of the Highlander movie. The 'immortals' (unless you chop their head off with the sword) didn't age, but they couldn't have children. I guess that was convenient. They could marry without worrying about accidently marrying one of their descendants generations later.

He also is into occultic practices, and we need to take advice concerning longevity in these kind of interviews with a grain of salt. One old man who didn't take good care of himself talked about liquor and cigars. God makes the it rain on the just and the unjust and makes the sun shine on the just and unjust. Sometimes advice from these folks who live long is good for longevity and other times it isn't.

I don't know if there is a correlation between having children and old age for men. Childbirth statistically reduces women's chance of a long life, but that could be partly because some women die of it. Being married is supposed to increase a man's chances of living long.

I went to a church event one time where an elderly lady had her 100th birthday. I asked her what she ate, etc. She was Filippina, but she said she ate bread and not rice. I suspect that doesn't have much to do with long life. I asked an Indonesian woman up in her 90's who stilled seemed rather strong what her secret to long life was. She said her father was a butcher and she ate a lot of meat growing up. From previous conversations, my guess is that stood out in her mind since she lived during a time of famine when the Japanese took the food for the war.

Personally I just think good genes along with a healthy lifestyle are pretty much key to any kind of longevity. I just found it funny that the first thing listed was not having children. I'm sure he wouldn't have lived to see a birthday cake with "111" as the candle display had he done a bunch of drugs what not. He included his physical activities he engaged in, and I'm sure the stress of having children that he didn't have to deal with helped out. Stress takes its toll on the heart physically, and lets be real here...there is a lot of stress in raising a family.

It was just an interesting article to me.
