Can Christians work on sunday?
I
In the Torah they stoned people for picking up sticks on the Sabbath.
Yep. That's because any working/any gathering was breaking the Sabbath yet Christ and his disciples gathered food on the Sabbath. They were supposed to gather all food the day before but they had an important mission/ministry that did not take days off so the Sabbath rules did not apply to them.
The idea that Jews believed they worked for salvation is not exactly true, it is a Christian misunderstanding. While works are part of their lives, they see it as an expression of their faith. And, they are correct as "faith without works is dead being alone." The 'rest' that is spoken of in the NT isn't now... you are still decaying, getting disease, dying... you are not at rest. That will come in the Millennial Kingdom. If the Moses represented the old covenant that is the law (works for redemption), then there must be a new covenant through Jesus Christ even grace- the LORD's REST.
The results of this poll (so far) amazes me.
During my life I have worked on many Sundays.
But, as I think back on those days
I know that it wasn't right.
Now days my wife and I enjoy Sunday church, a little snack with a nice Sunday nap.
God took a day of rest
and expects us to do the same.
Sunday should be our special day
to worship and honor God.
That's what we do up top the mountain.

I believe that rest is now and will be quoting Hebrews 4:10, For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Rest is not just to come but is... The works that are hypocritical are not an expression of faith towards God. Jesus for instant gave a parable of the "good Samaritan" , as it is popularly known, showing us that the pharisee and the scribe displayed a hypocritical observance of their faith by walking away from a man who needed their help. The faith by works is not mere observance of the law but doing exactly as it was summarized by both Moses, Jesus and the apostles in that the whole summary of the law is love... if you read James in context he has the same understanding that true religion is in giving love to others. The idea that Jews believed they worked for salvation is not exactly true, it is a Christian misunderstanding. I was kind of hoping you went here because you did what many do, you didn't finish the thought.I believe that rest is now and will be quoting Hebrews 4:10, For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. No they gleaned.
That is not true. And instead of an argument, just show the commandment that says not to glean. Picking and eating is not prohibited... been doing this for 20 years now and have had this discussion 1000 times. Not one person can provide a verse that says not to pick anything on Shabbat. The best you can do is manna... but we are not receiving manna today, are we?It's still prohibited by the Sabbath rules given by God.
Picking and eating is not prohibited...
It's still prohibited by the Sabbath rules given by God.
Yes it is. All gathering of food is required the day before. Going out and gathering/gleaning is still work and is not allowed.
No it isn't...they did not gather or store or cook....they ate it
They gathered it as well...it's all work and that's not allowed. They should have gotten all their food the day before.
That isn't written concerning what you can do and not do on the Sabbath. On the Sabbath you cannot do any work including going out to get food.
There is no prohibition on eating. They were not gathering it up, they were not selling it, they were not harvesting it and they were not cooking it...they were eating it.
Again... you saying it carries no weight. Please show me the verse that says one can't pick a piece of fruit and eat it! Don't bother with the manna verse because that was because they were in the wilderness (we are not) where God Himself was working to make manna fall from heaven (it isn't falling today). Scripture and verse, not your opinion.Yes it is. All gathering of food is required the day before. Going out and gathering/gleaning is still work and is not allowed.
