  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:clap:One of the very first man-made nation in the world... was that of the Tower of Babel.

A rebellious people who decided that instead of being fruitful and multiplying and replenishing the earth, they would stick together and build a tower up toward heaven.

God confounded their language. The result?

The thousands upon thousands of languages we have in this world today.

These days we have trillions of words from every language on the globe which encompass the world we live in, the truth and doctrines we intellectually perceive, influencing our actions and our very way of being.

Even deaf and dumb people use words to communicate via sign 'language.'

God has made us this way from the very beginning of time, as Adam was the first man alive who began naming the all the animals of the world.

Moreover, the fact that God used His WORD to create all we see around us and put His creation into motion.

Yet... every since the tower of babel, we have been divided by tongue first and then ethnicity. The result?

We scattered all about the earth to comfort ourselves in the group which speaks our same language and also carries our same heritage.

As time as gone on, however, we now have what we see in the world... a language melting pot.

Our languages, as they are being translated from native tongue to one of the major tongues (english, chinese, spanish, french etc) every day, are starting merge as one tongue.

As Ecclesiates says... there is nothing new under the sun. We are quickly heading back to the days of the Tower of Babel where we were only One tongue and of One mind.

Those back in the tower of babel were of one mind. This means that they held the same beliefs and religious values. The only problem was... is that their religious values were AGAINST the God almighty and His divine plan for man and all creation. This is why they fell and scattered.

However, in our current world.. we may have the multitude of religions... but quickly, behind the scenes a religion of Oneness is emerging. You can see it in how the Muslims claim that their religion is a religion of peace. How Christians don't believe in hell and they believe that God is a God can be found in all religions... in all books. This is the result of our languages becoming one once again.

Based upon everything written here, my question to you (both believers and unbelievers) is... what's next? What do you see in the near future of the world?

Based on what you've written here? Why would a non-believer base anything on this?

That said, I think the study of language is fascinating and that English seems to be dominating the flow of information. Whatever language dominates, this certainly faciliates communication. And, I do think it is clear that humans are moving beyond considering their own personal tribe (nation) as the only one that has the right to exist. I think results from greater access to stories from around the world. Some evidence of this is that the reported attitudes from societies with little or no access to the world (via internet, news or whatever) have what we might want to call barbaric ideas.

I won't live to see it, but I hope that we will come to see ourselves as one big tribe. I wouldn't pretend that this will always be one-big-happy, but I can imagine significant advantages over the way things are now.

Doesn't Pentecost begin a reversal of the curse of Babel. What God did in order to fulfil the creation mandate and fill the earth and to challenge of merely humanist efforts he appears to begin an undoing with the multinational and multilingual experience of the Holy Spirit

Doesn´t follow, and is not what I observe. Translations do not (necessarily) result in languages going extinct.

As Ecclesiates says... there is nothing new under the sun. We are quickly heading back to the days of the Tower of Babel where we were only One tongue and of One mind.
Doesn´t seem to follow either.
Even if I accept the (questionable) premise that being "of one tongue" means being "of one mind" for a moment, I fail to see how the fact that many of us are familiar with several languages results in them being "of one mind". Au contraire, learning more than your native tongue actually means pushing the limits that the particularities of your native tongue put to your mind.

Autumn is going to be there soon.
