The world says: "Yes, I love you IF you are good looking, intelligent, and wealthy. I love you IF you have a good education, a good job, and good connections. I love you IF you produce much, sell much, and buy much." There are endless "IFS" hidden in the world's love. These "IFS" enslave me, since it is impossible to respond adequately to all of them. The world's love is and always will be conditional. As long as I keep looking for my true self in the world of conditional love, I will remain "hooked" to the world --- trying, failing and trying again. It is a world that fosters addictions because what it offers cannot satisfy the deepest craving of my heart.

What do you do when people revile you, say nasty things about you or tell you that you are no good? Do you retaliate against them, say unkind words back to them? Do you get angry and start hating them? Do you take it personally like a personal attack?

Several days ago I was reading a book on the Beattitudes. Several verses really spoke to me and I thought to share them with you too. The verses are taken from the Revised Standard version.

"Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account". Matthew 5:11

"Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!" Luke 6:22

Notice a very interesting part in these verses. The first verse states ON MY ACCOUNT. On whose account? Who was Jesus talking about? Was He talking about you or the person who is saying all kinds of nasty things about you?

The second verse states, "ON THE ACCOUNT OF THE SON OF MAN"

It states on Jesus Christ's account. Not on your account, not on my account and not on the account of the person saying unkind words.

Every unkind word or deed is done not only to you but it is done also to Jesus Christ. So when someone says nasty things about you remember these verses. Remember that they said it to Jesus using you as their escape.

Also remember it is not about you, it is about the Lord Jesus Christ.

We must look for that unconditional love, and this begins within. As you mentioned, we must not let ourselves be identified or defined by the world. This begins with self love and self acceptance.
A great teacher once gave a simplethought: " Love thy neighbor as thyself"
One cannot love others if one does not unconditionally love and accept onself first. Once this is achieved, then love for others falls into place, and one becomes a beacon of Light andd Love, projecting unconditional love to others. When this happens, the true Christ within shines forth, that achievement of all that is love incarnate.

We start this with acceptance, because we know that all of our egotism arises from our lack of acceptance. We take this first grand step and look forward to being that loving spirit which loves thy neighbor just as we love ourselves.

Thank you Richard for sharing your thoughts. And I totally agree with you. However the unconditional love comes from Jesus Christ first before we even accept it within ourselves. And without His love we are nothing.

Interesting avatar you have. What message are you trying to get across with your avatar?

Understanding the context of scripture helps to illumine what otherwise seems like a contradiction. Here's an example of scriptures that seem to contradict when in fact they clarify each other in there proper context.

Luke 14:26 English Standard Version (ESV)
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

Mark 3:31-35 (ESV)
31 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.
32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers[a] are outside, seeking you.”
33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”
34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

1 John 4:20 (ESV)
If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot[a] love God whom he has not seen.

Amen! Thank you for this post, Moriah Ruth.

Then God's love is shown to all, in Giving His only
begotten Son, to be the way for us to know the
only true love we will know, in knowing Him.

Woffed,

Thank you for your input, however that is not the message that I am relaying when I shared my thoughts. It is not about US, it is about GOD. What you shared in my thinking is totally relating to another issue all together.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to HIS purpose."
Romans 8:28

Notice it states to HIS purpose, not our purpose, not man's purpose, not to anyone. To His purpose. It is not about us, it is about GOD.

Dear Moriah Ruth777. The world can be very judgmental and cruel, but we do not belong to the world. God is Love and our Saviour is always at our side.
A great encouragement to me is: Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells a Lawyer:
" Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ALSO:
Love thy neighbour as thyself." What we do now is to treat all we know and all we meet, as we would love to be treated: kindly and with friendly words always, also helping hands if needed. We know that Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. Jesus told us to "ask and ye will receive," then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour. God will see us and God will Bless us. With God on our side, who or what can be against us? We know we are doing God`s Will, and that knowledge will keep us joyfully satisfied. Jesus will lead and guide us, what is there to upset us? We just carry on loving and caring, and our lives will be abundant and filled with Love and Joy. We keep asking God and thanking God and sharing all Love and Joy with all around us. Love is very catching. (Matthew 7: 7-8) I say this with love, Moriah. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

true but what is Gods purpose? I think for Gods followers the purpose is the same. after all you can not be united with God unless you have Gods love. there is only one purpose, fellowship with God.

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written somewhere.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Take everything before God, and ask His truth, His meaning, His understanding.
But in order to get Gods truth...you must be willing to give up your own perceptions."
