In Revelation 12:1 we read;"And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars."
Many people believe this to be the sign of literal flesh and blood earthly Israel, but this woman that pained to be delivered is the sign of the freewoman. Or the sign of those who are born from above, that is why the women is seen as a wonder in heaven.
We are told in Galatians 4:26-28
26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. 28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
The children of promise are those children who are born again of the Holy Spirit, or born from above; which includes both Jews and Gentiles alike.
This heavenly Jerusalem is the mother of us all, just as she is the Bride of the Bridegroom. That is why the woman in heaven was clothed with the sun.
In Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day(Sun), and the lesser light to rule the night(moon): he made the stars also.
The woman being clothed in the Sun is the sign of the greater light, which gives birth to the children of light, which are of the day. Just as the moon was under the womans feet in Revelation 12:1; which means her children shall rule the nations of this present world of darkness, or lesser light(moon.)
In Psalm 47:3 we read;"He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet."
This woman being clothed with the sun(from above) is also shown in 2 Corinthians 5:1-2;"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
2."For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:"
That is why the woman in Revelation 12:2 pained to be delivered. This putting on of our clothes from heaven, is the putting on of our beautiful garments.
As it is written in Isaiah 52:1;"Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion, put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city:"
This is the New Jerusalem and this is the Bride of the Lamb.
Revelation 21:2;"And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God, out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."
And we see in Revelation 21:12;"And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels(stars), and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:"
Which is why we see a crown of 12 stars on the head of the woman in Revelation 12:1.

I have been sorta feeling my way around these things and I am not sure if I catching the symbolism aright. I just sorta play. I am not sure if this is a legal move to show Christ as the sun, it works though, especially given the invisible things of him are clearly understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, but I too have been looking at the same in various ways, and theres times when you can catch it in a threefold layer which is quite amazing, however its like you must show the three separtely, but all confirm (to me) Jesus Christ. This is what I was looking at (I couldnt fit it into one post)
