There have been some stirrings of a rumor lately, that some Baptist churches may ordain women as Pastors.

As a fundamental Baptist my stand is that women have a valuable and important role in the ministry. However according to the pastoral epistles, women can not be Pastors. A woman can take many roles in the church and of course be hired by a church for a particular role. However the Word of God dictates that a man is to be the Shepherd or Pastor.

I'm not trying to start a huge debate, I'm only wondering what the other Baptists' stand is, and if any of your Baptist churches have women Pastors (who preach to all of the congregation).

I also agree that the scriptures are VERY clear that God ordained only men to be overseers, pastors, preachers and bishops. The Word has not changed, but the world sure has!
I am totally comvinced that the feminist movement has done FAR more damage to society than women ever expected it to.
Most likely, I have now started the debate!

I don't know about other subsets of Baptists, but it seems like the SBC has consistently made a stance against females being ordained as pastors, and I don't see movement toward that changing anytime soon.

We don't have women pastors, but we do have a "Girls' Minister"--a young lady who ministers to the female youth exclusively. I think that there might be some struggles that ladies have that they would feel more comfortable being counseled by another lady about--of course if she's only pastoring women, that's not the same as being in authority over the whole church.

Green - It's a real blessing to hear this from a woman!!! This is one reason that I love this section of the Forum. Here, we have Christians who are more concerned about what the Word of God says than what the world says. As it should be.

Amen to that sister.

Hi Kristi. No I wouldn't say that a Web Page Ministry would make you a Pastor. As I said there are many places of ministry for women, and I personally think that a website outreach is a great thing. I would assume that people who are brought to your website and eventually saved through it would be directed, by you, to a local church. A website ministry would be a witness tool (I think) and there is certainly no gender specifics in the Word pertaining to witnessing!! So continue to "... do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." (2 Timothy 4:5). God will surely bless you for it.

Post your address I'd like to see your site. :holy:

I'm glad to learn that this doctrine is remaining unchanged.

I think a "Girls Minister" is a great thing. One of the main roles of a woman in ministry should be to train the younger women,

Titus 2:3-4
"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children," (underline added)

Aged here referring to mature. Well I'm glad that the Baptist church in this has refused to compromise.

I am so pleased that I am not the only person that thinks women should not preach. I'm only 16 but I'm not stupid, I was born and raised in church, I know right from wrong and I know it's wrong for a woman to preach to a congregation, unless they are teaching young ladies. I've never been one to care too much of what everyone else does or wants to go along with, if it looks wrong and feels wrong then it is wrong, like women pastoring or preaching. God Bless everyone of you!!!

Where have you been? It has been done here in NY for some time now. Quite a few of the churches in this area would have been boarded up sheds or made into apartments if it wasn't for the women rising up in the congregations. Some men dropped the ball(in this area anyway), and the women picked it up.

I have a male pastor, at our church, but before that there was a woman in the pulpit, until a permanent pastor was found.

Your church let a woman preach at your church?!?! I'm sorry I wont argue against it if you can show me in the Bible where a woman preached or where it says that such a thing is allowed. I dont care if the men have dropped the ball in your area or any area for that matter, you should wait til they pick it back up not get a woman to do a man's job!

I like you more with each post!!

Lollard doesn't your church have deacons (may be called elders). In the case where there is no preacher, in my experience, the deacons step up to the pulpit or a Pastor comes from a different church to fill in. That is what I've seen in that situation...

Yes, among many others in this area.

Four years ago this church was involved in a scandal that I wont get into, because I wasn't here at the time, and anything I say will be second hand information. Anyway, the membership for the most part left the church with the exception of a handful of women who refused to let the doors shut behind them. There was no waiting, if they didn't stay there, the doors would have been shut for good.

Pastors did come in and fill in, as well as one woman pastor who did the same duty. This might shock you, hold onto your hats there folks, the deacons were women. Today the church has gone from a handful to fifty every sunday and all because the Lord kept the doors open by a handul of old ladies.

Yes, many Christian men have failed, and the women have taken over. So they had no choice.
