Please don't take this as sexist or in any way belittling women.

When God created man, was this his only thought for creation initially, for there to be just one man, he gave man everything that God thought he wanted, so therefore God thought man was complete as he had created help-meets for adam in the form of animals and God himself was his companion. Then he saw that adam needed a help-meet that was more compatible with adam so created Eve, an afterthought?.

So initially did God only intend that an image of himself to be the inheriter of earth and it's only occupant with all the animals if adam was satisfied? Or was woman always in the picture?

According to Genesis 1, God created humans male and female.

If one were to argue that God "had created help-meets for adam in the form of animals" then the argumentum ad absurdam would be that the original intent of God for human sexuality was bestiality.

I believe that the creation of women was not an afterthought. That would make God the biggest sexist and the master of belittling women. Women were created in His image too. God did say, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...(Gen 1:26 NIV)." Also, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Gen 1:27 NIV)." Since woman was also created in His image, do you think that God consided that part of His image an afterthought?

Maybe God delayed the creation of woman to show Adam the difference. "Let Adam feel something is missing/incomplete, and he'll appreciate My next creation more. Maybe he won't feel like he can abuse her since she was created second, and from him, since he knows what it feels like to be alone." Maybe God didn't create the two genders at the same time because of this.

s_gunter I agree with you, its odd though that he mentions that he already created woman, even though most see god as a him and there are no female angels, so what image was eve created in, that of man, which we all know how completely different we are LOL (jk)

Some even go as far to say that Eve might not have been the first woman. That there may have been one who was also in the image of God, equal to adam and not created from adam....but then eve was created as a things didn't work out with the first one

Genesis 1 proves that men and women are equal to God.

Genesis 2 is the source of Hebrew Law.

And in the Hebrew Law, according to the ritual/holiess parts of it, women were treated as second class (really fourth class IMO).

No more ritual/holiness Law though thanks to Jesus.

So, Genesis 1 is the way to go.

Very thought provoking question. If one were to take it as God created Adam, perhaps planned to stop there, but after evaluating the situation further, saw that Adam wasnt going to make it on his own, and then created Eve, then that brings up all sorts of good possibilites. Such as that God takes into account our needs and desires and can "change" His mind....perhaps that Adam was God's first try, and he improved on the model with His second try(woman), found it to be self contained and sufficient on it's own, and stopped there!

Caliban, I promise that I didn't not mean to imply, "When God created Adam, he realized He could do better so He created Eve......" I did not mean to imply reverse sexism...

I think of it this way. God was always going to create Eve, but He had to convince Man it was a good idea. So He had Man look around at the animals and realize something was missing in his life. As a result, Adam loved and appreciated Eve.

Very much simpler explanation of what I was trying to say. Thanks!

Hello,

God created Man (literally ADAM) first, then decided Adam should have a companion and He created woman.

Looking at the timerline, this was the same day, maybe hours, maybe only seconds after Adam was created.

In my own opinion, it was less than one second.

Once Adam existed, the future would 'jell' and the benefits of 'woman' would be obvious.

I hardly think Eve was an afterthought - surely God is beyond the timeframe that restricts us humans to thoughts and afterthoughts. Although Eve came after Adam, she would always be necessary for the human race to begin. I believe that God always intended to create Eve, but man came first. Distinct points in time are hardly a problem for God, who is and was and ever shall be. For us, we can see that Adam first reveals the unity of all humans (male and female) as part of the human race. Eve coming from the rib of Adam (as with the 2nd creation account) also emphasises the singular species of Homo sapiens.
