• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am so depressed. I have several Dx's and I am dealing with abusing medication, not reading Gods word, and just loneliness. I feel in my heart i should stop the drugs. But I get this massive pull to do them. I used to have a fervent desire to serve the Lord but all that came crashing down when I started medication for me voices. Got hit with a massive OCD spike and it's been downhill ever since. I'm reaping what I sowed for eight years and that's a dark deep depression that is ugly. I go see my psychiatrist tomorrow to see if we need to try something else but I'm getting burned out by all this pain.

I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. I wish I could offer some better advice, but I will say this - please make sure you are open and honest with your psychiatrist. Also, please consider investigating a rehabilitative program of some kind to help you overcome your addiction. I have heard good things about Teen Challenge; perhaps consider looking into that program. Praying for you.

Abusing drugs, addiction?

I made a deal with my doctor. I was (still am) addicted to benzos, even though I feel I need them for real too, but there is addiction involved. I've managed to cut the dose quite a bit though. But the deal is this: I'd get the pills, but every few months it changes so that one bottle must last a few days longer before I can get a new one with the prescription. It's working for me so far.

Be honest with the people who treat you. And be honest with yourself too. Ask for the help you need. And pray to God with an honest heart. We might get lost, we might forget, but God is there and He is faithful. There is great grace and mercy in the name of Jesus Christ. You are not abandoned.

Reading the Bible can be good for you. Just pick it up, it often answers many of the things that trouble our hearts. I usually go to the Gospels first, then perhaps some Paul's letters. We can leave it alone for long times, and then we make a big deal out of it, like "I haven't read it for ages. I can't do it now". We are great with excuses, aren't we!

Said a little prayer for you.

I assume, along the way, that you already read this book.
http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-The-Mood-Therapy/dp/0380810336/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

It has been passed through psychology practices for years, we have used it with some of our long term cases and the results have been amazing. It is an older book, and you can have it used on Amazon for $4 or free at the library. If you have not read it, I suggest that you look into it.

I just received a free booklet called "Change your thinking, change your life" For me, it is essential to stay focused on positives including helping others and I do this by allowing the Love of Christ to Live and Work through me. This booklet haleps place that perspective, one of God centered thinking above all else, into focus.

We must realize a few things. First, we have freedom. We have the freedom to make nay choice and do anything which we choose. We must also realize the consequences of bad choices. We must live with our choices.
Unhealthy thinking often manifests itself in negative thoughts, which translate to negativity in life. When we do not allow God to work though us, when we fail to allow Christ to shine through, we fall victim to negativity. There is no negativity with God. Only love and light. When we see this and allow this to live through us, much neurosis disappear with the acceptance of ourselves as rays of Christ light. This is the topic of the two above books, and goes a long way towards our spiritual and psychological health.

I do not doubt that. I know all of us who believe have precious few times in our relationship with God where we really feel connected and even, dare I call it, in love with Christ. And we wish we could feel like that all of the time. But even the most tempered among us human children of His will always be fickle in comparison to God. It's just our nature.

I look at depression and other suffering as a blessing. It doesn't feel like a blessing but the bible does say that all things work good for those who love God, and so i try to block the fiery arrows of hopelessness and despair that depression hurls at me, and i do this by letting God use it for my good. Its my way of walking by faith not sight. The bible says we do not look at the sufferings of this life because they are only temporary, but instead we look at what is eternal, where there is no more suffering. We do not see these eternal things with natural eyes but must see them with eyes of faith.

Its my opinion that life is full of heartache, at times but not always, and even when we are Christian we still experience those things, only now they work good for us instead of harm, because we choose to put faith in God who works good for us. There are examples in the bible of suffering. We see trails and tribulations in persecution, distresses, hardships, and these things produces perseverance and patience which i assume are the fruit of the spirit, naturally. The bible also says that Gods chastening isn't joyous either, but it does produce the fruit of peace in us. I don't know when im being chastened, or if i am, because i cant see everything clearly, so i look with faith and i put trust in God, and i look toward the unseen things. I look with eyes of hope toward heaven, and i persevere with Gods help.

Some people say that depression is not spiritual but i think that they just dont understand faith and spiritualism. All things work good if we choose to love God by putting faith in Him.
