  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In Beginning God created the heavens and the earth (created through and for Jesus who is the “Beginning”) and mankind can readily see God’s invisible qualities…His eternal power and divine nature…from seeing the literal, visible universe.

Rom 1:20 KJV
(20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The visible universe should be enough to give mankind the knowledge of the invisible God. There is no excuse.

But no…. mankind did not think to retain that knowledge of God.

Rom 1:21-22 KJV
(21) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
(22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Man instead became vain in his own thoughts…his estimations…his reasonings….and his foolish heart was darkened when he professed himself as “wise”.

Mankind has then BECAME without the form of God’s righteousness and void of the knowledge of Him and that is where we are now in this period of time.

“Without form” = without God’s righteousness. It became “void”….that is, void of the knowledge of God. "darkness was upon the face of the deep" = mankind's heart had become darkned.

This is the meaning of the metaphor of the creation account. The earth BECAME without form and void.

Gen 1:2
(2) And the earth BECAME without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This interpretation is supported by Jeremiah where the same statement of the earth being “without form and void” also shows up in Jeremiah 4:23.

His people have not KNOWN Him and have no understanding and have no knowledge to do good. They are void of understanding.

They are without the form of His righteousness. They are wise to do evil rather than good.

Jer 4:22-23 KJV
(22) For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
(23) I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

Without form of righteousness= there is none righteous. No, not one. There is none that does good.

Becoming void of knowledge= there is none that understands. None that truly seek God.

The earth BECAME without the form of righteousness as His people have all together BECAME unprofitable.

Rom 3:9-12 KJV
(9) What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
(10) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
(11) There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
(12) They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

They did not like to retain God in their knowledge….and so the whole earth has BECOME without the form of His righteousness and void of His knowledge.

Rom 1:28 KJV
(28) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Since seeing is not believing, now man must HEAR His knowledge (the Light) as preached in the voice of Jesus in the Spirit of Truth.

God commanded that His Light to shine out of the darkness of our hearts when we hear the voice of the Son who comes to give us an understanding of Him who is true.

The Light of the knowledge of the glory of God shines in the face of Jesus Christ who speaks to us and gives us that knowledge.

2Co 4:6 KJV
(6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The Spirit of God moves upon the face of the waters and speaks to the darkened hearts of mankind and says that “God IS Light” which should be the proper translation of Genesis 1:3.

This is the first lesson given to mankind who has BECOME without form and void and His foolish heart was darkened. That Light of His knowledge shall shine within our darkened hearts (darkness was upon the face of the deep) when we hear the true voice of our Lord.

Gen 1:2-3
(2) And the earth BECAME without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

(3) And God said, “He IS Light”: and there was light.

The voice of the Lord is like the sound of many waters….as He interprets the Scriptures of His many biblical eyewitness accounts that are written down.

Rev 1:15 KJV
(15) And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Isn't is amazing how the Lord conveys His truths applying the literal to the spiritual and vice versa. Thank you so much for your Word. Amen

This highly imaginative post is fraught with very serious problems—not the least of which is the fact that Genesis 1-11 is written in a genre of literature in which metaphors and other figures of speech are never used. Every Hebrew word in Genesis 1-11 is used literally rather than figuratively. A second very serious problem is the incorrect translation, “And the earth became without form, and void…” The correct translation is, “the earth was a formless void….” That is, the earth had been a formless void but “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light” (NRSV). For documentation in support of these statements, please see the 648-page commentary on the Hebrew text of Genesis chapters 1-12 by Claus Westermann.

Another very serious problem is that Jeremiah 4:23 is referring not to past time as in Gen. 1:2, but to future time! Yet another very serious problem is the comment, “The visible universe should be enough to give mankind the knowledge of the invisible God.” Paul writes, “Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse” (NRSV, my italics). That is, they are enough—hence they are without excuse!

Every Hebrew word in Genesis 1-11 is used literally rather than figuratively.
Close but no cigar. We are required to have a literal understanding. But when we grow up then we begin to understand the figurative meaning of the Bible. The literal is the most important. We have to understand the Bible as a child first then we can build on that understanding as we grow and mature.

Invisible means zero, it means nothing in the material, physical world of matter. Then we are told that God is light and there is no darkness in Him, yet we can not see the light with our physical eyes, just our spiritual eyes. Which is controversial. We can talk about dreams, but usually, we are not allowed to talk about what we see with our spiritual eyes because it does not exist in the material world.

We are the tabernacle or the dwelling of God. He wants to become a part of His creation in and through us.

Required by whom?
But when we grow up then we begin to understand the figurative meaning of the Bible.
What is the figurative meaning of the Bible that we begin to understand when we grow up?
“The literal is the most important.”
The most important for what?
We have to understand the Bible as a child first then we can build on that understanding as we grow and mature.
If we first understand the Bible as a child, and then build on that understanding, we will be building on a childish understanding of the Bible!

A child understanding is of Noah and his ark and all the animals on the ark. As an adult we see that Noah is a real person with a real ark, but the story is an archetype of other floods. For example the flood when the dinosaurs were destroyed. A lot of people are not going to understand this until we get to heaven. They will go to places that explain this to them there. Also people see the Bible from their own perspective, so we have to take this into consideration.

You should maybe look into attending a Bible college. Most of the questions you are asking deals with what they teach in Bible college. At the church I attended some of the younger students would take their electives at the Bible college even when they went to the state college. With the pandemic, they started to do a lot of the classes online. Last I checked it only cost something like $50. It works out good because then people all over the world can sign up for the classes and take them. So they do not have to get a visa and pay the money to come here to America.

All of my questions were rhetorical, and none of your answers were even remotely correct. Little children are often taught a “Bible story” about a man named Noah and an ark that he built. As they grow up, some of them learn that the “Bible story” is based upon an epic tale found in Genesis 6-8. Many other children never come to this understanding.

And, by the way, the flood in the story of Noah and the ark is NOT is an archetype of other floods. Very numerous scholars have studied in great detail the flood story in Genesis and its relationship to other flood stories, and none of these scholars have ever suggested that the flood story in Genesis is an archetype of other flood stories. Indeed, the flood story in Genesis has been proven to be independent of most of them. See especially the commentaries on the Hebrew text of Genesis by John Skinner (the late Principal and Professor of Old Testament Language and Literature, Westminster College, Cambridge), Claus Westermann, and Gerhard von Rad.

Then do not ask me anymore questions if you do not like my answers. Easy solution. Just to back to your ivory tower and make yourself comfortable.
