Witchcraft, not the religion, "What is it? And why does it work for some people?"

IIRC spell derives from the germanis "spiel" or speech. I think in the olden days words were arrtibuted with more power than today. To curse or bless was to affect reality as much as to act physically, to "speak an event" into being with words alone was regarded as possible. I heard that in the past people sometimes had a secret name. To know a name was to expose the essence, and thus make it potentially vulnerable to witchcraft. Secret names hid ones true essence. IIRC the practice of crossing ones fingers when hiding the truth allegedly dates to times when ones false name was given and fingers were crossed to bring luck, but I might not have that right. Will maybe check later. It is interesting that we use false names online.

What do I think of it? I think its absolute bull.
Witchcraft isn't a religion, it is what would be considered a "craft" anyone can practice witchcraft, its not to be confused with the religion of Wicca ect. What do I think of it? I think its absolute bull.
Not really, I just gave you the opposite. The common misconsception is that it is a religion. This is such a common misconception
Yes it is older, but its not a religion... its a CRAFT.First off, witchcraft is a religion far older than wicca
I don't see how thats true, Witchcraft is practiced by Pagans, but not all pagans practice witchcraft, or even care about it.In pagan culture witchcraft is viewed as a general term that can categorize most of us who call ourselves pagan.
Witchcraft is the religion of the old gods of the pantheons. As a witch our main belief is that we can positively change the world around us through working with each other and other spirits who assist us in our work. We seek to better our lives and the lives of others through teaching that there is more to life than what you see with your physical eyes. We seek to teach others that if they want anything to happen in their lives then they better make it happen themselves because no god will make your life happen for you. We believe in teaching wisdom and also that sometimes you must perform "negative" actions in order to achieve an overall positive goal.
Witchcraft is not role playing, it is not just dancing around outside naked... everything has a purpose in ritual. The main concept that is held most highly in witchcraft is "in perfect love and perfect trust" which we express in our rituals.
original Pagans came under the love of the Mother The true Pagans that worshiped the Divine Mother actually supported the Christians
Yes you gw, can carry the power of a god (we all can), but you can never win against a person who loves God or the Divine Mother, because of your personal power as a god. gw, I think that you personally miss represent true pagan reality.
Work your personal majik gw, and let us all have a look at it. There will be no Divine Mother love in your personal majik. You do not represent the Divine Mother.

I'd be surprised if modern witchcraft really were tied to much older forms. But then, continuity is hard to establish, especially with recent revivalism and the whole Crowley influx. This is such a common misconception... and it truly lies in the definition of terms. First off, witchcraft is a religion far older than wicca.
Witchcraft is a method of using magick, but neither are religions. You don't have to be Wiccan to be a witch, and vice versa. Wicca (and Asatru, etc) is the religion, while witchcraft is the craft.Wicca is a version of neo-paganism much like baptist is a version of christianity. Now, I believe the word everyone is looking for is magick. Magick is not a religion and can be practiced by anyone. There are many forms of magickal practice and each religion, yes even christianity, has its own version of magick. Magick, however, is not witchcraft... magick is a part of witchcraft much like singing hymns is a part of going to church. In pagan culture witchcraft is viewed as a general term that can categorize most of us who call ourselves pagan.
Couldn't put it better myself....what the HECK are you talking about?
Witchcraft actually goes before the old gods.
"No god will make your life happen for you."
if you give Jesus and His name a chance, you can receive guidance that will happen in your life. And the original "Pagans" went to a source that helped them with their life. The Druids (the fall Druids) messed that up. The original Pagans came under the love of the Mother and were not into human and animal blood sacrifice. Which is why no true pagan to this day, actually comes under the law of the Catholic church. The true Pagans that worshiped the Divine Mother actually supported the Christians that were attempting to bring a stop to human and animal sacrifice.
