Hello.

I have been having a problem With Windows XP for quite sometime now (two years), After about two-three weeks of installing Windows XP All my frame rates drop from 100 down to 15. Before they drop they are fine, but after a few weeks they go WAY down to an unplayable rate.

I've tryed Windows 2000 (which is what I am on now) they are ALWAYS over 100 (Unless I'm in BF2). I never change anything aside from different Operation systems.

Maybe my computer's Specs just don't make the cut, but my sister's computer ( just about the same specs) runs it fine.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 950+ MHz processor (I may upgrade soon... not sure if I need to)

Geforce 5600 Ulrta 128 MB Memory

512 MB Memory (PC 133 X_X)

7,200 RPM 80 gig WD HDD.

It may be slow, but it works for me. I'm considering getting an AMD Athlon 64 3000-3200+, but I'll have to spend 300-400 bucks for that (new mobo and ram).

Has anyone ever had a problem similar to this?
No one I've ever talked to has ever had anything like this.. :X So, yeah.

Thanks!

Can you install XP Basic? As in absolutely no service packs, Windows updates, etc.? That may be the problem. Both service packs are/were notorious for causing problems, and I wouldn't doubt that's what might be happening here. I'd recommend turning off Windows Update completely and never using it, as it basically just clogs memory up to heck. As long as you utilise good computer security practices you won't have a problem. The only time I'd let SP2 come on the computer is if it had more resources and it came pre-installed. I'd never recommend updating to SP2 from an existing install.
