  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Artists renditions of the Lord. I've seen hundreds of them. They all portray a white male, long brown hair, mustache and bearded wearing nice clothing and very clean cut.

Where did they get this idea? Our description of Jesus in the NT is very limited. I don't believe a full time carpenter would be clean cut, hands washed, nails manicured.

I've seen the arguement in other places that say paintings like this are idols, set there to give us a visual of a Jesus that isn't correct.

This thread is by NO MEANS here to disrespect the Lord. I'm simply asking why we believe Jesus looked this particular way.

I don't know. Good question.

I see the Lord as being someone who has darker skin, because he lived in the Middle East. I look at the Jewish people, and think that Jesus must have looked like them.

I also see him as being toned and probably muscular and not scrawny as some depict him. He was a carpenter - they aren't slackers by any means. I'm sure his hands and feet were callused as well as dusty - and perfect in my sight. :)

I'm sure he had longer hair, because they didn't go to the barber shop once per month and crewcuts weren't the rage back then. He may have had a mustache and even a beard. What would it have been like to be ticked by His beard when He kissed your forehead?!

Those are my impressions................

It is difficult to imagine what Jesus really looked like in HUMAN form while he was on earth, since we weren't there. It does make sense that he would be muscular from hard work as a carpenter, and also have dark skin because of where he lived. Something I just thought of for the first time- we often think that Jesus will look like He did on earth when we meet him in Heaven, but when he was on earth, he was in the body of a man. And while we are made in His image, he probably won't look the way he did on earth, in Heaven. Just a thought. ;) But we won't know until we get there anyway.....What he looked like doesn't really matter anyway.

Good post :) and EXACTLY true I believe. Just wondered why so many people picture Him as a Caucasion male, trimmed and neat.
