Artists renditions of the Lord. I've seen hundreds of them. They all portray a white male, long brown hair, mustache and bearded wearing nice clothing and very clean cut.
Where did they get this idea? Our description of Jesus in the NT is very limited. I don't believe a full time carpenter would be clean cut, hands washed, nails manicured.
I've seen the arguement in other places that say paintings like this are idols, set there to give us a visual of a Jesus that isn't correct.
This thread is by NO MEANS here to disrespect the Lord. I'm simply asking why we believe Jesus looked this particular way.

It does make sense that he would be muscular from hard work as a carpenter, and also have dark skin because of where he lived. Something I just thought of for the first time- we often think that Jesus will look like He did on earth when we meet him in Heaven, but when he was on earth, he was in the body of a man. And while we are made in His image, he probably won't look the way he did on earth, in Heaven. Just a thought.
