That must be why the GOP opposed a bill that added over $800 billion to the debt right? ^_^
Tax cuts don't cost us anything because they're a stimulus to the economy.

Unemployment benefits on the other hand, are unjustified spending that just encourages lazy people to sit at home instead of looking for work.

I know! It was so sad, the republicans tried in vain to stop the tax cuts for the top 1% being re-implemented but those darn democrats refused to listen.

Oh...

Wait...

No...

That's not right...

Hmmm....
Well if we would just reduce bureaucracy spending it would all workout just fine for business, the unemployed and the deficit!:D Concluding a progressive budget with term limits!

I believe I highlighted the key word in the sentence. If the republicans had implemented cuts to offset the tax cut extension I would have had no issue with it. Given the recklessness with which both parties have been spending when in charge I will not hold my breath hoping things will change. :sigh:

Its basically like keeping my $900/mo. apartment, $300/mo. car, owing money on credit cards and walking out of my job to go work at Walmart.

Newsflash to all the conservative/libertarian types. The US currency you have is not yours. You don't decide how much its worth and you didn't decide how you came about it. It is allowed to you by society, probably through several middle-men, and we get to vote on the rules. Thanks for playing.

I'm sorry if you don't feel like you have anything to live for anymore, but maybe its time to set some other goals for your life than just trying to hoard as much money as you can, especially if you're not going to do anything with it.

The CBO says Tax cuts are less stimulative than unemployment benefits

Another right wing conservative talking point destroyed by facts :)

Maybe soon the CBO will be cleansed by the new republican majority so that only people with the proper ideology will make such projections.

Then the laffer curve will work and tax cuts will bring in more revenue and stimulus and we will live in a magical land of make believe.

I practically died laughing when I heard from the left that unemployment does more to stimulate the economy than tax cuts. ^_^

It's difficult to imagine any more brazen (and stupid) a lie than that CBO assertion.

If unemployment stimulates the economy more than tax cuts - the radical left wing ought to fess up and come right out and stump for more unemployment; they ought to be publicly praising the benefits of being out of work, applauding those who can't find work...

There's a benefit in being unemployed? According to the radical left, YES!!

The "reason" we're told unemployment "benefits" the economy - and that more than tax cuts - is that those who get unemployment will spend it - thus helping the economy. Incredible; utterly incredible - and cruel.

Tax cuts? Taxes take money from the [spending] public and redistribute it to the government, diminishing the public's ability to "contribute to the economy" and allowing the government to "contribute" instead. Tax cuts (taking less of the public's money) allow the public to keep more of their money - and ergo SPEND it.

But no - for the radical left the only economic boost must come from them giving just enough money to people who need it most, so they'll spend it - they would NEVER given them enough money to elevate them out of their condition of need, their poverty, their unemployment - thereby improving their lot in life, radically increasing the amount of money they'd spend then (and ironically generating MORE tax revenues for the government).

For the radical left the most evil notion ever imagined is cutting funds to their god - government. But proselytizing the masses to get more of them dependent on them and their god is vital to their existence. They WANT people barely eking out an existence while they thrive, people unemployed (hence the nonsense from this administration's CBO). They WANT their proselytes to be in want, in need of them.

Without their need, there'd be no "need" for them.

Because it is clearly more stimulative to give money to millionaires and billionaires so they can save it as opposed to the unemployed who have no choice but to spend it

It's ok... it takes years to be cured from conservativism and right wing thinking :)

Who said anything about millionaires and billionaires? Some thinking though is indeed difficult to change, I admit.

As for it being so stimulative -
The "Survey of Affluence and Wealth in America" found luxury spending would rebound for the first time in three years, led by purchases of automobiles, services, travel and children's clothing.

But the online poll of 1,900 households with an average annual income of more than $235,000 by American Express Publishing and Harrison Group showed 94 percent still believe the United States is in recession.

The households surveyed between January and April represent 10 percent of Americans and 50 percent of all retail sales.
I pity the poor schlub who wrote that article for Reuters - probably can count the days till she's collecting unemployment herself - and thus capable of "stimulating" the economy.

Context, Edwin, context. To stimulate the economy while in or just coming out of a recession - give money to the temporarily unemployed to spend.

You left out a key word in this little rant of yours, the word benefits. No one is claiming that unemployment is beneficial for recovery, but unemployment benefits are.

Feel better now you got that nonsensical screed out of your system?

Give an unemployed person unemployment benefits and it goes straight from hand to mouth. It's stimulative because they save nothing and spend all of it whilst they're looking for work.

Give someone earning a very good wage a tax break and they'll likely not spend all of it, and very few will use it to create the mythical jobs conservatives seem to fantasise will appear one day.

Nobody is arguing that unemployment is more stimulative than employment, so you can put that little strawman back in the cupboard with the rest of your platitudes.

Also:
But no - for the radical left the only economic boost must come from them giving just enough money to people who need it most, so they'll spend it - they would NEVER given them enough money to elevate them out of their condition of need, their poverty, their unemployment - thereby improving their lot in life, radically increasing the amount of money they'd spend then (and ironically generating MORE tax revenues for the government).
I'm sorry, are you advocating increasing unemployment benefit here?
