  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why would anyone eat locusts and wild honey?

Wearing a camel-hair garment and a leather belt is one thing but eating locusts and wild honey is another. I don’t suppose John the Baptist was wearing the camel hair garment that I am familiar with-although I think it would have certainly given an ecumenical advantage with the Brooks Brothers crowd-of whom I have been a sometimes admirer...

Not a huge difference between shrimp and locust, anatomically anyhow. Except that locust is kosher/halal and shrimp is not.

Who doesn't like honey?

I once had a girlfriend from the Middle East who would not eat shrimp for that reason.

"Ακρίς", also means "tip" or "peak"and its plural "ακρίδες" means "shoots" as in tender young plants. It does not translate only as "locusts". Most of the Greek fathers I have read consider the "shoots" as equivalent to the pottage eaten by the sons of the prophets in the Old Testament.
