  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As always there is always those who feel we cannot stay and discuss honestly and openly with each other and gain understanding and must label our brothers and sisters to divide us. But I disagree for the following reasons.

1) Iron sharpens iron- We need to see both sides of a issue in order to focus on what the issues are and come to a decision, hopefully with much prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

2) We must learn to love- It is easy to love those that care and love us, but true love learns to love no matter what the other person thinks of us or feels toward us.

3) Learning to live as brothers/sisters- How can we expect to live in Gods kingdom if we let ourselves be irratated by even the smallest little quirk or peculiar personality or traits of a brother.

4) Saving our brothers/sisters- If we are following the true path to eternal life, we must reach out to our brothers with all the love in our heart that God has given us and pull them with us as best as we can so we can both be saved, and so we must stay together and love one another...

5) Finally it would break my heart to see my brothers and sisters seperate, as I have experienced it and nothing wounds worse than evil coming between what blood unites....

God bless us and bring us to hear and keep His Word..

Luke 11:28
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Red,
I'm afraid most people don't come here in a spirit of unity. it appears that most come to play chess with words and try to make the opponent look stupid. To discuss openly and gain understanding requires that one be vulnerable and admit when they're wrong. Most of us are too full of ourselves, looking out for the prestige or our avatar and promoting an ideology. When self gets into your mission, the mission is over, and the mischief begins. That's why there is conflict between traditionals and progressives.

I would discourage new Adventists from coming here to learn more about the faith. An internet forum cannot take the place of the local church, where you are part of a family, and have face-to-face encounters with people who are real to you, and where every relationship matters.

Spiritual dialog, "iron sharpening iron," depends on trust and relationship. Not only does that rarely happen on the internet, trusting people you meet on the internet or seeking relationships here is not considered wise.

I know what your are saying as most of the preachers and elders I talk to say the same thing and have no use for the internet in spreading Gods truth and the Gospel of Christ. But those of use who understand the posibilities and potential for sharing know it can allow for much sharing of love, and honest and open discussions and to gain much understanding. Yes the local church and brethren and pastor can help a person grow, but it can also harm, push out, and turn off some people who need the buffer offered by being online and in a forum situation.

Some of us have been blessed with the gift of discernment and a sense of our brothers and sisters true feelings even from behind a keyboard. Within a few posts we can sense their personality and the love which is shown and we comprehend their purpose, and those things are not hidden from us...

God gives different gifts to different people, and I feel many of us can see and feel the love that emanates from the heart and reaches across the internet divide and gives us a blessing........:groupray:
