It doesn't matter if you don't have ANY bishops
What do you think an 'overseer' is? Why only particular MEN? Why, for instance not women?
As to how you define that term, show me from Scripture
Right I did know that but beards still creep me outBy learning about the Historical Christ?
Christ was human as well as God ya know
Actually in Greek it is "τις"meaning "anyone" it does not specify gender(either male of female) as it is used for both.
I'm not going to take your word on it because I haven't done the research to see if that's true,
Wow, great attitude. You haven't studied it at all, so just assume the other person is lying.
No...I haven't studied it at ALL so I don't assume someone is right or wrong. I don't agree with something I haven't studied.

I'm trying to be a pharmacist. What's your point? I have applied to Pharmacy Tech jobs but so far it's a no go. I'm still trying though.Have you studied pharmacology?
You provided the supporting scripture (husband of ...). Some folks just like to immediately argue, rather than assume others might have a valid point.

If you're question is, Do I agree with what is said in pharmacology that's different because I actually have studied chemistry.
When it comes to scripture, I don't automatically believe what someone tells me. I have to do research on it, that's just me and my philosophy.
I understand what you're saying, but when it comes to pharmacology I can go and do research on a pill before I actually take it. When it comes to the word of God, I don't automatically believe what someone tells me until I do the research on it myself. That's just the way I am.Lol, well that didn't exactly work. Oh well, lets pretend you said "no" for the sake of argument. Why do you take medications or believe in their actions if you haven't studied pharmacology (hypothetically)?
You're using the word like "lying" and "truth" as if I've already made up my mind. I did not. I said I would not take her word for it because I haven't studied it. Why would I agree with something I know nothing about? So you just automatically assume Philothei isn't telling the truth about the meaning of a word?

laconicstuden,
If it make you feel any better, I went to this website to check out the Greek text of the verses in both 1 Timothy 3:1 ( 1 Timothy 3:1 Greek Texts and Analysis ) and Titus 1:6{ Titus 1:6 Greek Texts and Analysis } what she said checked out so far. I can also see why that word was translated "man" because of the surrounding text around it.
I'm going to go to my preacher who speaks Greek and ask him about it as well, just so I can get another opinion because If you look at 1 Timothy 3:5 on there 1 Timothy 3:5 Greek Texts and Analysis the word that is "tis" in Greek is translated "man" so I don't know why it's translated "any" for the one in 1 Timothy 3:1 but man in verse 5, but that's a question I'll ask him.
