Do you remember things better if you listen to audio or watch a video rather than reading? People learn in different ways. Maybe it would help you to try other forms of media. And take time every day to pray. That will definitely help you grow closer to God.

I have tried to get closer to Jesus and I have been useing Spurgeons morning and evening along with reading one chapter of John but why? cause i cant remeber anything i read i pray thatll ill remeber and be more christ like but...................:( idk

Have you tried meditating on what you've read, or do you just read?

There's a difference.

You see, when you read something from the Bible think about what you're reading. Don't just read it for the sake of reading.

Ask yourself these questions: 1. Who is the author speaking to? 2. Why is he speaking to them in this way? 3. What is he trying to say? 4. How does this message relate to me? 5. Where can I find Jesus in this passage? 6. As a result of reading this what will I do?

And if you want to memorize scripture (this is a good thing to do) use a translation that reveals God's message in a language that you're most familiar with. In other words, you wouldn't use the KJV (King James Version) for memory because the language is too old. It will be too difficult for you to memorize scripture like this. Try using the NKJV (Ne King James Version) instead. As a result of this, it will be easier for you to memorize scripture, because you are more familiar with the language it uses.

By the way, don't bite off more than you can chew. Start off by memorising a verse a week, and gradually increase your memory work until you can memorize a verse a day. Use flash cards. Put the passage on one side, and the chapter and verse on the other side. Review your cards daily.

But be careful that you don't just memorize words. Try to understand the meaning behind those words. It is better to have one rightly understood verse memorised than to have 100 verses committed to memory without really understanding what they mean. The questions that I gave you above will help you with this.

Share what you learn with others. This will help you to remember what you've read. It will also keep you busy about the Lord's work;)

Most importantly, ask God to increase your understanding of His word, as well as your ability to recall it at any time. James 1:5.

I hope this helps you.

P.S. Young man, I'm very proud of you! Keep your eyes on Jesus. Don't let anyone put out your light. The Lord has great plans for you! You are A LOT closer to God than you think you are.

You are not the only person who has come across the same problem.

It happens to everyone at various times in their lives.

I take my hat off to you for saying just how you feel. That is the best and first step on the road to knowing Jesus.

Try Steps to Christ, a great book to find Jesus.

I guess i know what you mean. A while ago I tried to just read the Bible but when I was done I was like "okay........uhh how can this help me" but then I started to get a devotional book. I did it for a tiny bit but soon stoped all together. I knew i should be doing something so I got morning and evening ,after a while from when i stoped doing the other book, and started to read one chapter a day from the Bible.

PS some of the posters have read my thread about the 2 CDs I have not send anything yet cause i want to see how i could send it but i keep on forgeting to ask someone like my mom how.

But a change has taken place in you. You are now more concerned about your relationship with Christ than you were before; you are now more sensitive to things that ought to be changed in your character. How many other people of your age, and even those who are much older for that matter, are concerned about these things? Not many.

The Lord is performing a mighty work in you! You are changing (for the good).

Keep in mind that you don't have to become sinless in order to draw near to Christ. He says
"Come to Me all
you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Mat 11:28 MKJV)

Let Him continue to do His sanctifying work in you. You are not far from the kingdom of light; rather, you are far from the life that you used to live in darkness.

You have stepped into the light, as He is in the light; and He is now showing you things about yourself that if heeded, will improve your walk with Him.

You are growing in Christ, my brother.

Try to remember that it is God who works in you. You can't make yourself feel differently. Ask Him to transform your heart and your mind, and He will. Here are a couple of texts that would be good to memorize:

Romans 12:1-2:
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Philippians 2:12-13
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Good advice:thumbsup:

These are verses that we should all memorize if we haven't already.

Change is sometimes unforseen. I have experianced change that went unnoticed (by me) untill I was presented with a situation that I reacted to differently than the old me would have. At that point I praised God for allowing me to see the change.

Pray for God's guidence and ask Him to show you how you have changed and what needs to change then seek out scripture that will encourage you in those areas.

The fact that you are seeking change is witness enough that you will change.
