leonard ravenhill wrote a book called why revival tarries, and nearly everything he said blew me away, i thought i might post a little here so it could bless you as-well.

these quotes are just from the first 4 pages.

The cinderella of the church of today is the prayer meeting. this handmain of the Lord is unloved and unwooed becuase she is not dripping with the pearls of intellectualism, nor glamorous with the silks of philosophy; neither is she enchanting with the tiara of psychology. She wears the homespuns of sincerity and humility and so is not afraid to kneel!

One does not need to be spiritual to preach, that is, to make and deliver sermons of homiletical perfection and exegitical exactitude. By a combination of memory, knowledge, ambition, personality, plus well lined book shelves, self confidence and a sense of having arrived... brother, the pulpit is yours almost anywhere these days. PREACHING OF THE TYPE MENTIONED AFFECTS MEN; PRAYER AFFECTS GOD. The pulpit can be a shop window to display our talents; the closet speaks death to display.

What is unction? i hardly know. but i know what it is not (or atleast i know when it is not upon my own soul) preaching without unction kills instead of giving life. the unctionless preacher is a savor of death unto death. The Word does not live unless the unction is upon the preacher. Preacher - with all thy getting get unction!

Untion cannot be learned, it must be earned - by prayer.

Brethren we could manage to be half as intellectual (of the modern psuedo kind) if we were twice as spiritual.

Victory is not won by firing intellectual bullets or wisecracks, but in the prayer closet; it is won before the preachers foot enters the pulpit.

Where are our unctionised pulpit crusaders!?

The tragedy of this late hour is that we have too many DEAD men in the pulpits giving out too many DEAD sermons to too many DEAD people.

AWAY WITH THIS PALSIED, POWERLESS PREACHING WHICH IS UNMOVING BECAUSE IT WAS BORN IN A TOMB INSTEAD OF A WOMB, AND NOURISHED IN A FIRELESS, PRAYERLESS SOUL!

WE MAY PREACH AND PERISH, BUT WE CANNOT PRAY AND PERISH.

Leonard Ravenhill.

My pastor once told me that statistics say 99% in america of preachers profess to pray less than 5 mins everday.

OH GOD HELP US....

Endure,

I enjoyed very much reading this post, it caused me to think of something to share -- that is, if you don't mind. I once heard the phrase "Every battle is won, before it's ever fought" if you think about it, it's very true. In a spiritual sense, the battle is won before we go out to fight, the war has already been won, that is, our eternal victory won through Our Savior. It is the little battles that I am talking about, the witnessing, the preaching, and loving others. All these battles are won before we even face them, and they are won in the prayer closet -- it is through prayer than a humble man receives true power from God.

Look at men like Spurgeon, Hyde and Wycliffe. Men who preached with such power, that hundreds, even thousands, would accept Christ in single nights! If you read into their lives, you will find that they were diligent men of prayer. Prayer is power, if your weak, your not praying enough.

I believe that was first said by Sun Tzu in "The Art of War". Regardless, it is true.

My brother and I were just talking about this subject of prayer and revival. I need to do some more research on this but I believe that every revival and great awakening was first preceded by men of God on their knees praying for the church and for lost souls.

amen...

i think prayer is the great equalizer.
it makes the playing ground level for all who come.
those with great IQ's have no advantage here, and no one, not even the lowest has any excuse for not succeeding.

we can all pray, and without prayer we are good for nothing in the kingdom (except to be cast into the fire that burns to give light to those who DO humble themselves and pray to see the truth and bring it to pass), regardless of how smart or wealthy or bright you are. it levels the ground for all, no one has any advantages, no one has any excuses, we all can pray, and we all must.

i am coming to a moving understanding, that it doesnt matter how bright or brilliant you are, how naturally inclined to speaking you are, or how you can sway the minds and emotions of people through natural gifts and talents, without a personal revelation and power of God that ONLY comes through time spent broken before him alone in prayer... we are still good for nothing except to be burned in the fires that light the way for those who will humble themselves and pray.

leanord said something profound, he said the church today has more technology and man's genius than it ever has, its fully equipped as the world sees it, but the altars are more baren then they've ever been.

i thank the Lord, for making prayer the thing that changes lives and not anything some men simply werent gifted to have, so that anyone who comes, has the potential to change lives for God and see souls saved, through the simple art of broken humble prayer that has our absolute dependance on God in mind at all times.

it scares me, that the focus of much preaching today, has become motivational and inspirational speaking, but not Jesus on the cross and souls to be saved from hell.
becuase anyone even without a prayer life can give motivational speeches and sway the minds and emotions of people, but only one kind of person can save souls from hell and preach the cross, and that is the simple soul who knows God through much prayer.
i love how paul said in 1 cor 2.2, that he was determined to only know one thing among them, Christ, and him crucified.

its all about a man named Jesus and place called calvary.
everything else is nice, but nothing else is really truely important.
but people have went to what they didnt need prayer to do, and now speak to the intellects of men, and left the hungry spirit of man to die and thousands to burn in a pitiless hell.

OH THAT WE WOULD RUN TO THE ALTARS AND BEG FOR MERCY FOR THIS SCANDAL! AND OH THAT OUR PREACHERS WOULD BEGIN TO PRAY!

its a terrible, thing, to know you dont have anything from God to say, so you give something out of your mind instead, and willingly preach that way.

to hell with the knowledge and wit of men, if it isnt direct inspiration from the thrown room, dont waste my time or anyone else.

i like what my pastor said, he said it doesnt matter if your just working in the sunday school talking to young children, if you dont have a real word from the Lord in your spirit, you dont have any business teaching in that class. these are real peoples souls here, and this is God thing.
