Good day everyone,

I am going to make this post not as a judgement, but on my views as to why Communion should always be received kneeling (or genuflecting) and on the tongue. I am also open to any counter arguments that would be made.

Prior to Vatican II and more specifically shortly after in 1969, the main custom of receiving Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament was kneeling on kneeling rails, and on the tongue. There has been documentation from the early Church referencing "presenting a throne" for Our Lord. This "throne" was the placement of the dominant hand, under the non dominant hand, where Our Lord in the Eucharist would be placed. This was the idea for mainstream Communion in the hand. However, the issue with this is the "throne" in the early Church being presented had a cloth covering the hand where the Eucharist would be placed, then the person receiving would proceed to "pop" The Host into their mouths. Never would Our Lord touch there hands. I just thought I would mention this beforehand as this was something I heard quite frequently when I was first looking into becoming Catholic. Now onto the issues.

1) Consecrated hands.

The most obvious thing I can point out is that a lay person's hands are not consecrated. This is something that should be a large red flag, not that a priest's hand(s) are worthy, but they are consecrated. Where as laity, ours are not.

2) Disregard for Our Lord's divinity, and/or lack of belief.

The studies are showing that now, more and more Catholics do NOT believe in the real presence of Our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist. Now I am sure there are many factors to this, such as the secular world we are living in - but let us take an outside look. Say a Protestant is attending a Catholic Mass, and it is time for Communion. He sees the people going up in lines and rushing up and reverently take the Host, into their hands and walking away. Surely, we would not treat the Son of God this way if we truly believed he was present, would we? Now don't get me wrong here, I am sure there are MANY faithful Catholics who believe in the true presence and receive in the hand. I am saying how it looks from the outside.

If we are all rushing, and taking Our Lord without so much as a head bow - surely this must be a metaphorical meaning? I believe people who truly believe in the Eucharist yet receive in the hand might have an influence from the secular world, or Protestantism on who Our Lord is. We often have people putting Our Lord down to our level and having Him as "buddy, buddy" so to speak, and bumping shoulders with Him. This view truly strips his divinity, and lordship if we see Him in this manor. Of course he loves us, and of course he cherishes us otherwise he would not have given himself for us - but we must remember He IS the just judge. We must have a love, and fear of His holy name.

3) The fragments of Our Lord.

As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist truly, fully, and substantially contains Our Lord in body, blood, soul, and divinity. We believe this is true, in so much as a fragment. So, should we choose to receive Him in the hand, when we place our hand down, or brush off our hands, Our Lord falls onto the floor. From there Our Lord is being crushed under the feet of His own people, in His own Church! Again this goes back into the disregard of what the Eucharist truly is, and who Our Lord truly is.

4) Theft of the Host.

In my country Canada, there has been a rising of these so called "Black masses." Where these vile outcasts of society who openly worship the Prince of Darkness. Often these "Black masses" will involve a stolen Consecrated Host. This is made so easy to preform since we can receive in the hand, especially when some Parishes (I have been witness to this) will hand out Holy Communion at the door. In and out of itself that is wrong. Regardless, Communion in the hand makes theft much more readily available, and having disgusting acts of sacrilege preformed on Our Lord.

Ironically however, this should also give testimony on how Our Lord IS truly present, and how His one and only Holy Catholic Church is the true Church.

5) The exorcism of Anneliese Michel

This is a very famous, and popular documented exorcism case. Several films have come out of inspiration of it such as "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." A young Catholic girl was possessed by multiple demons, who disturbingly took names after Nero, Hitler, Judas, as well as several other well known evil people. Regardless, one of these demons had took great pride in allowing Communion in the hand to become mainstream in the Church. Again this is a documented exorcism tape, and you can even listen to the audio files from it. Some people would say demons twist the truth in every manor, which a firmly agree with. However, the were being compelled by who they referred to as the "High Lady" of course this being our most Blessed Mother, the Holy Virgin of Virgins. It is very disturbing to hear something so evil take credibility for this.

6) "Every Knee shall bend, and every tongue shall confess Jesus is Lord."

As an ode to this, when we receive Our Lord, our knees should bend to Him in His infinite divinity and majesty, and as we are to receive Him on our tongues we shall give true testament to His divinity.

I do not mean to upset anyone by writing this, I hope to inspire thought or at least a discussion for this. As I had said I am more than open to hearing counter arguments, and discussing them with you. I am also not telling you that Communion in the hand is invalid, you as a Catholic have by Church decree, every right to choose how you receive Our Lord. But please remember some of the things I have said. Also this was all written in one sitting, so my apologies if the wording in some of this is poor.

Lastly, I have a poll posted (just out of curiosity) on how everyone receive Communion who reads this.

God bless you, and Our Lady keep you!

I have a short span of attention so admittedly I tend to skim long posts. But:
Lay people’s tongues are not consecrated either.
Hosts were stolen for nefarious purposes long before Vatican II.
Particles were a problem with Communion rails and patens too.
And before it gets introduced into evidence, there is no solid source for Mother Teresa ever saying receiving on the hand is the biggest problem we face.
I receive in the hand, which is the norm in my diocese.

Definition of a Fellowship Post

It is not:

It is not debate.
It is not apologetics.
It is not answering questions related to the beliefs of the group.
It is not teaching in any way on any issue

It is:
Essentially Fellowship is defined as a discussion of topics of association, of companionship - i.e. discussions of things like friends, family, work..... these are fellowship posts. And posts that genuinely offer friendship would certainly be described as fellowship.

I receive on the hand
I also receive on the hand and I am extremely careful in doing so. I have also brought Holy Communion to Nursing Homes, County Homes, etc. I have had people receive in the hand and give the Eucharist a lingering kiss, kneel, say a prayer, before receiving the Eucharist. It is all in their ability. God knows that. I do not concern myself too much when I bring the blessed Eucharist to those that receive in different ways. I make sure it is consumed in a respectful way and leave it at that.

I remember one of my favorite people I used to bring the Blessed Sacrament to received on the tongue and went into a coughing fit because she was getting ready to be delivered into the Hospital for pneumonia and spit it everywhere covered with mucous. I had to clean it up and go out and bury it. She died a day later. We really need to think outside the box concerning this issue because I have seen it. Both ways. Nothing is foolproof. God knows our hearts and we need to be merciful when our fallibilities come into play. Of course there is the foundation of who can receive the Eucharist in the Church but there are variables we have to deal with those united with Rome. Things just do not always go as smoothly and as edifying as we would like.
