  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why isn't there any good Christian metal?

Not so - some Christian "metal" bands are as good and, in some cases, even better than their secular counterparts. That being said, the hayday for Christian metal was the 80's. There were many poser bands that came out at that time but there were also some very good bands, musically and lyrically. And they could ROCK with the best of them sans the sex and drugs !

Most of the music these days, both secular and Christian is IMO garbage. There are a few exceptions of course. Oh to be able to go back in time between 1967 - 1989 musically ! :D

What are you talking about no good christian metal. How about:

Zao, Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean, Underoath, Showbread, P.O.D., Blindside, and the list goes on.

If you say, that there's no good christian metal out there, then you have never heard of these bands.

How is christian metal an oximoron. Christian black metal you can argue about that that could be, but metal is simply a style of music.

I agree that most good christian bands are inferior to the good/great secular ones most often, but there are some good ones like:

Antestor (from the cd The return of the black death on)
Sanctifica (though bit of an Emperor ripoff)
Tourniquet
Extol
Living Sacrifice
Vaakevandring

(The following opinions are solely those of the poster, don't take offense)

Extol - Prog metal trash. They couldn't write a melody to save their lives.
Tourniquet - Pretty much the same. A couple diamonds in the rough (Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror), but mostly just noise. No melody, no rhythm. Too prog.
Mortification - Lame. No variety. Boring to listen to.
Living Sacrifice - Too metalcore. Lack of melodic ideas.
Zao - Too hardcore. No melody, just overly distorted guitars. Too many breakdowns, not enough melody.
Norma Jean - What? These guys suck. Period.
Underoath - I heard they were good once... whenever that was...
Showbread - More noisecore lameness.
P.O.D./Blindside - Are you kidding? Radio rock garbage.

Sanctifica - Uhhh... these guys suck. I mean really, really suck.

Vaakevandring - I'd like to check them out, but where am I supposed to find their music?

Antestor - See Vaakevandring comment above.

Are there any Christian power metal bands? How about Christian black metal?

Which CD's have you listened to? Many of them are quote different, and depending on your definition of "melody", some do have a good bit IMO.

For power metal I'd look in the direction of Narnia and Seventh Avenue.

For christian black metal here are some good/famous ones:

Antestor (from the cd The return of the black death on, don't know if you can find any songs online but you can get info at www.endtimeproductions.com)
Lengsel
Vaakevandring (though they only released 1 demo, same site as Antestor for info)
Sanctifica (they're first 2 albums are black metal, In the bleak midwinter and Spirit of Purity)
Crimson Moonlight (The Covenant Progress and Veil of Remembrance)
Dark Endless (If you like real Darkthrone style black metal)
Horde - Hellig Usvart (a clasic, musicly it's inferior to anything, but it was meant as a parody on the norwegian black metal scene in the early nineties, lyrics are hilarious, Darkthrone style again, first christian black metal band, or as they call it Holy Unblack)
Slechtvalk

Those are some of the better ones and famous ones, there are a lot more though.
