OK, that clarifies it for me. It's not the drugs in and of themselves that are bad, or, as you see it, have to do with sorcery.

But still, you're on pretty thin ice claiming that the act of getting intoxicated somehow has to do with sorcery. Using the text you quoted, it would in fact be easier to call most medical doctors and evangelical preachers sorcerers, since they all tend to be "one who uses drugs, potions, spells, enchantments".

What some satanist did to get in touch with satan in the first century has precious little to do with a teen experimenting with pot or mushrooms today. Not that the kid shouldn't stay away from it, but it's just not the same thing. Just like the bible isn't an evil book even though preachers have misused it to ruin people emotionally and even physically.

Commonality doesn't really mean jack. And think about it; why didn't the writers of the bible group getting drunk together with this sorcery stuff? Is alcohol so fundamentally different?

My own experience with drugs (both as a spectator and a former addict) is that there's absolutely NO sort of magic link between sorcery and drugs. None whatsoever. Yes, shamans have used mushrooms in their rituals and such, but again, satanists even use the bible. You shouldn't give all this power to dead things. Like Larry Norman said, "I don't believe the devil should have your soul, your music, he shouldn't have anything."

As I said in previous posts...yes some drugs/herbs/objects etc have been used in sorcery and witchcraft but it doesn't mean the 'things' are sorcery...just how they are used.

Floatingaxe you said 'drug abuse'...but your original post mentioned drugs...not drug abuse as being a problem. Having said that, I have to say...and I'm sure you'd agree, that any drug taking is abuse in my opinion....what I did all those years ago was abuse too...I never became addicted to pot but, I do believed I abused it. And I still cannot see the connection between drugs the use of...or abuse of...drugs as having any affiliation with the occult unless...they are used FOR THAT PURPOSE.

Magic? hmmm..no one said magic. nonetheless, there is a connection. Sorry you have a hard time understanding that. I'm not going to force it on you. People who know the Scriptures know the connection--and teach it. Those who miss it--don't.

This thread is asking if weed was a sin. Pot...on it's own...abuse or not! You're the one who posted the meanings of sorcery which means 'Pharmecy' or whatever it was (sorry too lazy to go back and look now ) and Pharmecy means drugs...not ABUSE of drugs...just drugs. And that post made reference to drugs being sorcery...and I challenge that notion because I think it's ridiculous. When I pick you up on it, mentioning every day drugs (painkillers etc) you now saying that only the 'abuse' of drugs is sorcery?? But that's NOT what you said....not at all!

The Bible tells us that God created everything, and it was good. Even poison oak.

Now what it is good for, other than giving one a rash I can't say, but said it was good.

There are a lot of different opinions being offered here. But the one thing I fail see in all this is the location being taken into consideration of each poster.

My Bible tells me:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God...Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour." -Rom. 13:1, 7 (KJV)

Marijuana, pot, weed, smoke, etc., in and of itself is a good thing as it was created by our Lord.

But, as I said before, nobody here is taking into account the location of each poster.

I live in the United States. Specifically, in North Carolina. And as such, North Carolina has passed laws that say pocession of marijuana in any amount is a crime.

Regardless of how I feel about it, to pocess it, smoke it, use it, is against the law and therefore, I am sinning because I have not:

"be subject unto the higher powers." -Rom. 13:1 (KJV)

When Jesus was here on earth, even though He was the one who gave the "Law" even He was subject to it. He was not above it, and had to live according to it.

Now some countries allow it, and if your living in a country where it is allowed, I don't have a problem with it.

I'm a smoker of "pot". But, and I add clairification here, until the law is changed and they make it "legal" which is highly doubtful, I cannot somke it because I would be sinning.

It is really just that simple folks.

Don't let it get overly complicated.

Smoking anything isn't good for us. Lungs are meant to inhale air for life. As the temple of the Holy Spirit, we sin by ingesting smoke of any kind--noxious, psychedelic or other.

Over eating is just as bad, are you going to point a finger at "fat" people and tell them how wrong they are?

I'm gonna be honest with you.

When I came to the Lord He told me to quit smoking dope, and to quit drinking. And I did. I didn't want to, but He changed me.

Now when the Lord tells me to quit smoking cigerettes, I will. But until then,...

According to your standards, a lot of things we should stop doing.

Are you going to tell us to stop drinking coffee because it contains caffine which is a mild stimulant and thus we are hurting our body which is the temple of the Lord?

Or how about those people who drink espresso?

To this I agree...to a certain extent because we need to be careful because fats, sugars, salts ...caffeine etc can be damaging to our bodies...now lets be honest...how many of us have overindulged in these things from time to time?? (puts hand up - guilty as charged )

As for smoke in the lungs...if you live the the city you are done for...pretty much. And all Christians should move to the country or we'd all be sinning from breathing in the pollutants in the air. So we need to be very careful what we say.....I guess

That's why I've said about it become a 'lifestyle'. And pot, even though it's SUPPOSE to be non-addictive, I do believe that the affects of it can be addictive (if you are so inclined) and it's easy to slip into that kind of lifestyle.

That doesn't cover taking drugs, such as cannabis. A Christian has a clear message from God about the error in partaking in that. It's not optional. We must reject it.

We are being called to be separate unto righteousness. There is a refiner's fire coming that we need to desire and love, because it will teach us about being separate and holy.

Then there is the consuming fire coming for the wicked. Wickedness in us will meet with God's wrath. We don't want to have God's wrath on us.
