Why is weed a sin

Our bodies may be defiled by what we put in it but WE are not. We are made pure in Christ. Our bodies are defiled anyway...by sin! Our body is dead anyway.

Does it mean we should go out of our way to make it even more defiled? Why? How is that possible if we're already dead in sin.

To me....weed is no different than eating too much fat or sugar or salt or caffeine....we are to not tempt the Lord by making our lives harder by doing things to our bodies that make it harder for us to continue in this world...it's hard enough isn't it??

Is it a sin? Probably...it's not really of God now is it? I was going to say....if not done in moderation but then...can you even be moderatly stoned??? I doubt it! I don't know...the lifestyle doesn't honour God...that I know for sure!

I wouldn't say it's serious..not in the eternal sense, since our body is defiled by sin anyway...had a look in the mirror lately??? But the bible does say not to do it and I beleive it's because it's not God honouring nor is it a good testimony to live as the heathen do...the lifestyly of drugs.

We are meant to be a shining beacon to the unsaved...how can we do that while we trash the temple??

It's something that will be repented if they are a child of God...don't know about renouncing...as far as I'm aware repenting is all that is required, actually it's not even required it's a given.

Nope...but that's what the Holy Spirit is for, to lead us to repentence and to keep us from destroying our own destiny.

Sin won't separate us from our destiny anymore...God has made sure of that

Anyway, as I said, I don't know if pot is an actual sin...but I do believe that the lifestyle surrounding it isn't God honouring and a good testimony for Christians to put forward. God will discipline those he loves though, and he will bring them back to where they should be.

Errm....smoking pot is smoking pot...has nothing to do with sorcery or witchcraft...where did you get that from??? What a load of rot!! I smoked pot when I was younger and I can assure you that it had nothing to do with any form of witchcraft or sorcery for goodness sake. I did it just because...and it made me feel bluurgh so I didn't bother with it after that. I think I only did it 3 times.....all it did was make me feel tired and I just wanted to sleep.

What it does do is create a lifestyle that isn't becoming to a Christian - that's what I know for sure after hanging out with people like that...and I decided (or was it God ) that that wasn't the lifestyle for me.

Spiritually we are made pure by the blood....no sin cannot cancel that out!

Sorry, but you study the words used for drugs and the words used for sorcery and witchcraft and they are the same. They stem from the same sins used in the practice of the craft. Drug use is like practicing witchcraft and sorcery. It is vile to God and has far-reaching, soul-destroying effects.

There isn't any melodrama here, but to treat such sin so lightly is unwise, to say the least.

It would behoove people to study the Word more, because some of the opinions here and the ridiculing words used is revelatory of lack of knowledge.

Sorcery and getting high may have had something to do with each other in certain places, cultures, times and languages, but it's not like that in the western world today, and it's not like God sees a drunk person as a witch doctor.

As Cassidy says, smoking pot is smoking pot. It can be PART OF some sort of vicious lifestyle, but so can going to church or refraining from alcohol or reading the bible. Morphine can be used for medicine or it can be abused to run away from your problems. Eating meat can be a blessing or it can be an offense. And so forth. All these earthly things aren't magic, they're just... well, earthly.

Remember to say no to painkillers if you're ever in pain, since painkillers=drugs=sorcery.

And modern times are different than the past, something I'm usually very grateful for For instance, slavery is illegal now, temple prostitutes aren't very common, and the emperor isn't "god". Etc.

Read in context. Marajuana can very well be used in witch craft if a spell requires...but so can a lot of other herbs we put in our food. I'm sure they could use just about anything in the pharmecuetical department if they wanted to. But that doesn't mean that everyone who uses such things are associating themselves with the occult.

Modernity doesn't remove the seriousness of the sin of sorcery, which is drug abuse.

Every single pastor and teacher I have ever sat under have all referred to drug use (abuse) as the sin of sorcery. That is where it is based. They have studied this and they know root languages. I believe what my God-given leaders have taught and continue to teach.

Some just haven't had good teaching on this subject.

I don't think, that just because someone is a pastor, means they can't get things wrong or get on bandwagons just as much as us 'small' folk who aren't pastors. I also think it's dangerous to blindly believe people just because they have a title.

It's the first time you;ve heard it, but it won't be the last time. It is commonly believed and taught that the word for drugs is the same word used for sorcery. It's the same root, the same sin. It is an occultic behaviour--always.

We are not discussing the remedial use of pharmaceuticals.

Yeh it may be a trendy thing in your circle of churches...but in the ones I've been too. But I don't readily get onto bandwagons just because everyone else does.

Drugs are drugs...and that is what is talked about in your previous post.

So according to this...yes we are!! we are talking about pharmeceuticals (pharmacy) ...drugs! Using of...drugs!

And now you're saying we're not...well according to your post and your 'pastors' definitions we are! Unless you are misrepresenting their position....or maybe they are and you're just quoting it completly out of context...I don't know.

But what I do know is that there are some drugs, herbs...objects used in the occult but that doesn't make THEM the occult...but rather how they are used. But we're not talking about that in this thread...

We are talking about pot being a sin...on it's own...which it isn't ...after all, God created it But how it is used isnt' becoming to a Christian and not God honouring....so anything that isn't God honouring is a sin. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The word, "sorcery" refers to those who use and deal in illicit drugs and practice witchcraft as well. How does your "circle of churches" interpret it? Ask your pastor---see what he says.
