I claim to be a Christian, but inside I feel dead and apathetic. My life is literally going nowhere. I've come to a point in my life where I don't know what to do anymore. Despite trying to get closer to God, I feel like there is no connection between us. I cannot hear his voice. If someone asked me if I love God, I would probably say "yes" but I wouldn't really mean it. I feel completely indifferent about God, and life too. I don't know the purpose of my life and I feel like I am just walking in darkness. When I read the Bible, I don't understand anything and the Holy Spirit does not help me to understand. I have suffered from depression and schizophrenia for several years, and despite asking God for help and healing from these conditions, he has not answered my prayer. I never have answered prayers.

If your life/living situation is fine, then you need to practice gratitude and being grateful cause that will change your mood.

And then secondly, try to find a community to be a part of if you can, and/or a church to go to/be a part of if you are able to do that or if you can.

And the lastly, or nextly, "get out more", etc. There is very little God can make happen or do or find ways to show Himself to you if you are never getting out of the house or being around nature/outside and/or other people more, etc, cause that is where He can/likes to work or show Himself to you the most, etc.

Walks, or bike rides, or just getting out/going places in general would probably help a lot, and I mean "a lot", etc. Even if you don't have anything to do, or a specific destination to go, just get out more, and give God the opportunity to cause/make things happen, etc, and be looking out for them when or while you are or when you do, etc. You might even begin to start hearing His voice when you do, etc. But be watching/paying attention for it when or while you do, etc.

What's some of your favorite songs about God and Scripture that you enjoyed previously? Sing along and say the Verses.

In God's Prescription Book," written by a Christian neurosurgeon, Dr Avery Jackson, there is a chapter on laughter. He makes himself laugh 10 times a day. (I don't feel like it but do it because "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: ..." (Pro 17:22). Sometimes I say Lord I'm doing this only because of you and your word). Our bodies can't distinguish between an authentic and fake laughter but still gets the benefits. One benefit is a merry heart improves our immune system. Also, would ramp up the gratitude to our Lord.

Seeing info on how eating a healthy diet impacts our mentality. Might want to checkout Dr William Li on Youtube

Also, here's some Scriptures that help me.

"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Jer 31:3

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psa 46:1

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippines 4:7

Amazing just in these few verses, points out God's love, His protection, strength, and peace for us.

Also if you're living alone or by yourself, and are pretty idle/alone a lot of the time or often, then if you can handle the responsibility, and your living situation will allow it, I recommend getting an animal or two, preferably a dog or cat or two to take care of, and keep you company, etc, cause that can be pretty awesome, and work wonders, etc. They can be like your kids, or babies, etc.

This is also good advice.

Listen to praise and worship music, or even sermons/Bible teachers on the TV or radio. Find things that can make you laugh but are clean from time to time (I like to watch funny animal videos, because I like/love animals, etc) and take care of your physical health as much as possible, including diet and/or exercise, because that/these/all of those can also have a big impact on mood, and your thinking, or how you think/feel, etc.

You are not alone in your struggles my friend. I understand your plight.

30+ years i been suffering with anxiety and depression. It can be a daily battle.

Through it all, i too have pleaded for help. It can get very hard indeed.

Look, stay strong. Never run away from God. Persevere in prayer. Remembering that as you carry your heavy cross, Jesus is indeed carrying you!

The devil wants us to give in and abandon our love of God! Yes, he may very well win many battles in our lives but, be determined that he will never win the war!!

Stay close to God my friend. No matter how hard it gets. Dig in and pray harder!!!!

May God wrap His loving arms around you and guide you.

How do you get it?
It is free. You just have to be willing to associate with God. Accept His son Jesus as your personal saviour. After that, like someone said - look for a praise and worship song. Get an earpod or headphones and listen to it. When you are done, go through your Bible and read any pages that come to your mind. When you are done, pray and go to sleep. Then come back here and tell us how you feel. Kai

What country? Your English seems pretty good.

If you are now staying in Colombo of Sri Lanka, it seems the economy is doing pretty good there. And they have pretty good infrastructure and resources and tourism. And there are many different groups of people and language groups, Sihala and Tamil being the official languages, and English their "link language". So, you knowing English so well could make you useful, and you can possibly share with quite a variety of people, in churches and elsewhere.

So, I would trust God to guide you and share with people. Just be kind to people, and very careful about who you trust while you learn how to evaluate and share with people. It will be hard to get depressed and feel empty while you are loving and caring about people. And you might be able to help some people get better in their English; this could be very appreciated and lead to employment and ministry organization work.

To me, it looks like depression and loneliness are a major problem, now, in the United States . . . where people can have rather cozy lives and lots of material things but be quite unhappy. May be ones need more challenging lives, and likely ones are not learning how to love in good relationships, but instead are trying to find the friends and the politicians they want to use to get pleasures and security which they want for themselves. This can keep them from learning how to submit to God and share with Him and His people.

So, is it possible you have had a fairly easy lifestyle, with no real challenges? And this including not learning how to relate with God's people?

The prayers that are answered or not answered by God are in accordance with His eternal purposes (we must always remember this). He may allow us to experience unpleasant things or may intervene. Regardless His picture is a eternal one ... He will indeed work things in our life to that end ... whether we understand it or not.

I don't usually ask God to solve my specific struggles but rather go to Him and say I'm feeling badly about X,Y or Z and to please help me through it/them and give me wisdom ... and I trust He will ... in His time. I focus on His unfailing love and try to create positive things in my life (no matter how small) ... if we continue to focus on the negative that fuels the fire of our discontent (a self pity) this is not a good place to be.

He promises to go through our struggles with us ... not necessarily to prevent them.

Life can be very difficult at times .... but I rest in Him knowing He is there and will help me through ... no matter how bad it gets ... no matter if I don't understand.

Focus on God's love ... even in times of trouble ... especially in times of trouble.

@headphones777 , are you doing better? Sometimes, prayers may not be answered, but do not be dismayed, for God is with you, every step of the way. I do recommend that you talk with a pastor or priest though, as he/she could help you with your discouragement.

Lamentations 3:19-24 (NIV): "I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’"

Sometimes, prayers may not be answered,
Sometimes God is slow to answer prayers. Sometimes we do not even want it anymore what we asked for. God gives us the desire of our heart but we have to know who God is and what He wants to give us. Then we pray and ask for what He wants to give us and what He wants to do in our life. Because He knows better than we do what to ask for.

The promises of God are far beyond anything I could ever want to ask for. Abundantly above all we could ever think or say. One thing is for very sure. God answers prayers but He is not a genie in a bottle. We need to seek to become the person He created us to be. We need to seek the Giver of gifts and not the gifts themselves.
