Yes,it's a lovely picture of the love relationship between Christ and the Church,isn't it? Jesus,the Bridegroom and His Bride,the Church. The Church belongs to Christ as a bride,because He has purchased her through His blood (Acts 20:28) What a wonderful Bible truth!

From what I can tell, Irenaeus was the first Church Father to refer to the Bride of Christ explicitly as the Church, but it seems obvious from Scripture. It is also interesting to read Psalm 18 in a Christological context:
[VERSE=Psalm 19:1-5,LXX]The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands. Day to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge. There are no speeches or words, in which their voices are not heard. Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. In the sun he has set his tabernacle; and he comes forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber[/VERSE]

(I am quoting from the Septuagint, which has a different numbering scheme, as the Masoretic Text seems to have some ambiguities, at least according to the footnotes in the Oxford Jewish Study Bible)
