I don't get it. I know I am slow.

First of all it's only a joke and you can use Baptist if you want.

There are Adventists that understand that drinking wine, or in this case beer, is not sinful but they won't drink in front of each other. So it's better to bring two Adventists fishing that way you save your beer.

Although I don't want to get into a debate about this and I 'do' know it's meant in a joking sense, sometimes even jokes can be offensive. ;) Same as if I hear someone make a "blonde" joke.

Also..

Some Adventists 'believe', not understand. ;) Same as some Adventists, like myself, believe that it is sinful. Understand means that that is the 'truth', believe leaves the door open for either side to be right.

<.< Please dont go after me for taking this too harshly, but I just felt like pointing that out.

Blessings and Love,
Sarah

Sarah Darling, I suppose we will both get our heads chopped off........ :prayer:

Well, for me the thing is that when we commit to print things that we may or may not consider "funny" it really puts things in perspective, or at least it should.....

I have had a similar experience... except the person that made an "inapropiate" "joke" had already stated that there are some things that are NOT "kosher" and that they wanted to be taken seriously about that....

Funny thing about "funny"... there is the "ha ha" stuff and the stuff that is just mean... and then there is the stuff that is NOT funny....

Sometimes we want to fit in and we try to mimic others we would otherwise condem....

I am wanting to believe that the poster truly did NOT intend to offend and was truly intending to "lighten" the mood....

Poor choice aside.... We TRULY MUST be very careful how we portray ourselves and others when we are in a possition of influence...

Believe me... whether we want to or not, this forum IS a possition of influence...

Do you see how a false doctrine such as, drinking beer or wine is sinful, can cause.

A simple joke to some one who understands that beer and wine is not sinful would be funny and have no problem with the joke.

We have the same unwarranted guilt and condemnation with make-up, jewelry, dancing, theater, eating sugar and even drinking coffee.

This isn't putting the subject itself on trial, Maco. Whether drinking it is sinful or not is not the point. The point is that some people believe, with faith and love of God, that this is so..just as you believe with faith and love that this is not a sin. To "mock" either side is what can be hurtful.

Also, you speak as if you know you are right without a shadow of a doubt..with the "know" and such. This therefor means that those who believe that it 'is' wrong, for their own personal reasons and experiences..are somehow lesser than you who knows better, no? ;)

Careful chosing your words. Would Jesus laugh at a joke which mocks a person's way of showing their faith in Him?

Blessings and Love,
Sarah

P.S. Totally agree Bella. ^_^

IntoTheCrimsonSky, aren't you a redhead? :)

My wife just LOVES blonde jokes. :sorry:

Being Norweigian, she is about as blonde and fair as they get.

However, she is 6 feet tall in heels, so she is able to use short jokes on others as a defense.

As for alcohol, I have some serious doubts as to our church stand on the Bible teaching total abstinence. I don't see that in the Scriptures, but I do see moderation and a prohibition against drunkenness. I don't drink personally. I have had maybe two glasses of wine with my restaurant dinner in the last 10 years. It just makes more sense to avoid the stuff as much as possible IMO. I would sooner have a Root Beer when I am at a party anyhow. Tastes better than ye olde brew does.

I thought this joke was really funny :D
And just to be clear I believe that drinking is wrong and it is a sin for people who know to do better.

Those people who want to read strong spiritual implications from this joke shouldn't be so quick to bash it. Even if you believe that drinking is wrong, there is no sense getting mad a joke that tells it like it is anyway.

Being able to speak one's mind is not bashing.........

Having the ability to be concerned with something that may be taken TOO lightly is NOT bashing........

The freedom to inmortalize a "joke" is the same as being able to "comment" on said "joke"

The beauty is in being able to handle it with "thick skin" and "kid gloves"....

You are intitled to your opinion as I am to mine....

No, I do not advocate drinking, so I do not drink, have no desire for it really... same goes with smoking for that matter....

I believe I am responsible for this temple and there are other things I could do to it.....IF I so choose to that would "waste" it without destroying it...... (I rather not do that also sooooooo go figure)....... and for those wondering... I could missuse it for sex or food or extreme weight loss.... any number of "non sinful" things you may come up with.......

I do not recall saying that drinking is sin... I do recal saying that it is not funny.... and could cause others reading this to get the wrong impression....

Post away with no regard to what you are saying or who may read it.... not MY cup of tea really... obviously I may be the only one that cares this much about it...

Hey, no one is perfect and I KNOW I have my flaws..... do I wish to share them with the e-world... NOT....

To each his own.....

Actually, I was born blonde as anything. ^_^ My hair gradually added some brown and red in it as I got older, and now it's dark blonde heading brown.

I feel pretty much the same as you about the drinking. I don't know scripture well enough, though, to judge it's say in the subject..but it just seems common sense, and I do know that it is against 'drunkeness'. I'd never touch the stuff myself, regardless though.

Here is my Nordic Queen :

She's so pretty! ^_^

Anyone have any other good SDA jokes that aren't offensive? ;)

Here's one that I heard:

A Baptist arrives at the gates of Heaven where Peter greets him. As Peter is leading the Baptist gentleman through the streets of Paradise, they pass by a closed-off section of the New Jerusalem with high walls. "What's that?" asks the Baptist. Peter replies; "Oh, that's where we put all of the Adventists. Shhhhhh, you have to be quiet-they think they're the only ones here."

:sorry:

Wow, those crickets are sure loud out there...

I wasn't talking about you specifically. Of course you are entitled of your own opinion. I was just sharing mine too.

My point was that even if you don't think the joke was all that funny, you don't have to look at it as a joke. The truth is, many Adventists will refrain from doing something they would normally do when around other Adventists. So whether you find it funny or not, it does show a true fact of how some Adventists act. Those who don't find the humor in this can still benefit from it because it shows how some of us are.

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
(Eph 5:4)

Do you really think he is telling us not to tell jokes or fool around? Look into it a little more and let me know what you find.
