  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is everyone promoting tattoos?

I mean, was I the only one who was taught when she was a child that tattoos are wrong? Am I the only one who had conservative parents? My parents absolutely hated them and thought they were wrong for some reason.

All I know is that growing up if I had even thought about getting a tattoo or my ears pierced I would be in so much trouble.

And now I feel like if I go out and do that I am betraying my family in some way. And I am very loyal to them.

And yet it seems like everyone on here thinks its OK or something. Like your parents were all liberals or democrats or something like that.

I sort of feel like I am standing out like a sore thumb.

Well it's not to do whether one is culturally conservative or liberal, etc. There can be liberal people without tattoos and conservative people with tattoos.

As far as promoting tattoos is concerned, I myself have not ever said that people 'should' get tattoos; it's an individual thing. Some people are strongly motivated to get them; others are strongly motivated not to get them.

I guess culture gradually changed, but it's also kind of subjective. Like stuff such as lipstick, earrings etc that maybe some Christians 70 - 80 years might have said they were 'against' for supposedly theological reasons, but nowadays preachers' wives and daughters would wear with no problem.

You're doing fine!

Blessings.

Everyone? I haven't seen that many posts about it. If you don't want to get a tattoo for whatever reason, don't get one. If you don't like threads about tattoos, don't read them. It's simple.
I think you've commented before on tattoos, but I don't remember whether you said you liked them, faith based ones or not.

I don't personally like most of them unless they are very small or there is special artistic skill. I don't care one way or the other if fellow Christians get tattoos.
There's a lot of bad tattoo art about! :) But some of the artwork is undeniably good, and a tattoo does not have to be big. Many Christians seem to find it effective in witness to have faith based ones, such as a Bible verse or ref., or a Christian fish sign <><, etc.

I guess none of your family has one, either?

It's not for everyone, anyway.

..

I guess tattoos and ear piercings are kind of separate. (Does no one in your family have pierced ears? :) )

If you as an adult don't want your ears pierced, don't pierce them. :) If you do want them, then as an adult it's you that gets to decide, I guess.

Seems like you don't want a tattoo - not even faith based - so it's simple: don't get one! :)

Blessings.

If it helps to know, I don't believe in tattoos because it says in the Bible that God doesn't like them, I think they are personally ugly(sorry I don't want to offend anyone just my opinion), and it just doesn't feel right to me for a Christian. Weither my family likes them or not I know God is closest to me and I don't get them because I know He has made me beautiful without them and He doesn't like them. :)

I can understand your point of view. Many Christians today, instead of fighting the medium, embrace it and use it to get faith based tattoos which are proven effective in witness conversations.

There is also the situation, for example, of maybe someone who has the name of her ex-bf tattooed, e.g., 'Bill', but does not want to be reminded of this, and instead gets the tattoo changed to say, e.g., 'Bible'.

Presumably this sort of situation is understandable, even if you don't like tattoos.

Blessings.
