• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why I'm Orthodox . . . and why others may want to be too.

What is philo dough made of, anyway? That's some weird stuff.

Flour, water, vinegar, salt, and oil, mainly. The real trick is getting it thin without tearing it. http://www.greek-recipe.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article151 Note that this recipe does not tell you how to roll it out; that is exclusively for the Filo Factory, or for Mediterranean grannies who have spent their whole lives in training

For awhile I stay away from bashing the Catholics but Catholics are here bashing everyone else.

No we aren't Jim . . . This is a twisting of what has happened in this thread.

I guess it is OK for non-Catholic to take pot shots at our faith, make unsubstantiated claims against our own and inflated claims in contrast about theirs and we should just be silent and let you all do it?

Look at the OP again Jim . . we have been defending against those negative statemetns in attack of our faith ever since in this thread. We have been challengng the unfounded claims made by the OP . . that is NOT bashing . .

But bringing up unrelated issues to attack the Catholic Church is bashing Jim . . .

Geo,

I would probably say I've been as consistent in that regard as you have been. I haven't seen you admonish one of your brethren either. This, of course, is one of the major problems in discussions like this - we tend to get defensive when we feel our Church is under attack, overlooking the transgressions of our own brethern in the heat of the battle, sometimes purposefully, sometimes not.

I see a lot of retaliatory responses here. I've witnessed quite a few people take some rather dubious shots at my Church while trying to defend theirs against criticism. I see nothing wrong in defending one's belief, but I don't find it necessary to lash out at the other's Church because of it. I may get ticked at some of the things I read, and that might bleed through in my replies, but you won't see me attacking the RCC in kind.

As someone had already mentioned, and whom I had agreed with, I don't believe either side is going to convince the other that their Church is more "right" than the others. I see more antagonism here than sincere, honest discussion.

No Basil . . the only reason why it is not as well known is because the Orthodox and other non-Catholic groups do not interest the media like the Catholic Church does.

Did you bother to read the article geo posted for you?

I live in the city. Everything is close.

NOT!!!!

I lived in Minneapolis before! Whether you're going to the grocery store or the mailbox one block away, every trip always seems to take an hour!
