Why do you think there are four books in the Bible, all in order, that all talk about the same thing, which is Jesus's birth, death, and reserection (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.) ? Do you think only one book is nessesary to discuss this topic of? Why or why not?

The Gospels, for one, do not harmonize in their entirety.
We need all four Gospels. If we didn't, God would not have seen fit to make sure they were all there.

I think it's good to have the stories from different perspectives.
Matthew wanted to convince the Jews that Jesus was Messiah. He did this by connecting, wherever possible, Jesus with Jewish tradition. (fulfillment of Scripture) He had first hand knowledge of Jesus. Matthew shows Jesus' geneology through David and Abraham.

Mark appears to have been written for the Romans.

Luke's account was geared towards non- Jews. He traced Jesus' ancestry back to Adam. He stressed the prominence of women in the ministry. He described the birth of Jesus in the setting of world history. Luke is the only Gospel to conclude with the acension of Jesus into heaven. Luke puts the focus of His geneology through Mary, too.

John concentrated on the seven major signs that Jesus is Messiah. (2:11, 11:43 are two of these signs)

I got it from the prefaces in my KJV. :D

I had also heard some of this elsewhere, but it was easier to write with the help of my Bible. :)

If your Bible has a concordance and helps at the back, it might also have the harmony of the four Gospels. It will tell you which stories and parables and miracles are in which Gospels.

And here I thought God did that.
He did, He used His Church.

True true! The way He gave us the NT was not the same way we received, oh, say the 10 commandments. But no question the Holy Spirit was dwelling in and guiding the actions of the priests/bishops who voted on what books to include.
