:angel: Adventists have unique beliefs. We are set aside from the rest of the world; some even go far as to call us a cult (I know! :eek:) so we have some unique beliefs. To be an adventist is not an easy road. Its not just a case of turning up to church every Sunday. In fact, we do it on a completely different day, Saturday, and keep the biblical Sabbath- thats taking an entire 24 hours out of our week! I'm sure many of us have made sacrifices for that.

So, surely, then, to be in such a denomination, you must have some very good reasons as to why you believe in our loving, ever-able friend which is our God. Not just any God, but indeed, the Christian God of the bible;

[bible]Matthew 11:28-29[/bible]

So why do you believe in the christian God of the bible? (Its one thing to believe theres a God- but to go that one step further and name the God is another!)

Is it just a feeling that you have, that he is there to guide you?

[bible]Proverbs 3:5-6[/bible]

Or do you have more reasons that are more fact based that lead/also lead you to believe in a God?
  • Prophecy? Well, if so, which ones?
  • Archeology? Well, if so, which ones?
  • Experiences, like say, miracles? If so, what experiences?
  • Why do you believe in the bible? (Indeed, why do you take the book literally? Why do you have so much faith in its words?)
I'm compiling a list of why-I-believe reasons in a little notebook, to not only remind myself, but so that I can tell others too why I believe;

[bible]1 Peter 3:15[/bible]

And all help is very much appreciated, thanks in advance! :thumbsup: ^_^

I've been lucky and blessed enough to be born into an SDA family. So, I've always 'known' of Christ, that He loves me etc etc. But, I would definately say I didn't really believe what I was hearing in church week after week until a couple of years ago.

I suppose you could say I believed in God, and Christ. But, it didn't really have any effect on me. I started to get serious about my beliefs because of the rock hard facts of Prophecy - Daniel and Revelation in particular. That really kick-started my true belief, as it were.

Looking at this again made me realize that I didn't answer the topic question.

I believe what I believe on account of fulfilled prophecy, fulfilled so precisely that I consider this evidence that what I believe is based on truth and not on any myth.

Matthew 11:28-2928 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Windmill

That is one of my favourite verses.

It says so much about the gospel and Jesus Christ.

I am a bit saddened that this thread has such few replies, but to answer the question. I believe in God for many reasons. The obvious being my almost "death before birth" thing. According to doctors they said my mother would probably die while pregnent with me, if she lived there was a small chance that I would live aswell and I am here. God would have not of spared me if he didn't have something for me. Anyway at one point I was doubting the bible, but then one day i picked it up and read it with an open mind willing to learn something and not with a mindset to criticize. After awhile i was in shock and just thought that no man alive or dead could write such a book. it had to be written or "guided" by the hand of God. I mean who else will tell you to love your enemies, bless those that curse you and do good to those that hate you? Who else will tell you to walk a mile with your neighbor if they desire? Who else would tell you to remove slander, malice, anger, wrath and obscene talk from your mouth? I look at the world around us and how terrible it is and come to the conclusion that there has to be a God out there. There has to be a point to living on this terrible planet.
