  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do YOU ask for advice?

When you have an issue in your life that you can't seem to figure out and you reach out to friends, or others for "advice", what do you expect to do with that advice if anything?

So many people I come across, here and IRL that ask for advice and then don't take it. It's almost as if they really don't want it.
I, on the other hand, when I ask for advice, I am serious about the consideration of it. Especially if it is being given by people that know me really well. And then I take that advice and pray about it, so that God will reveal to me, what if anything, I need to change or do about the situation.

What about you? Do you ask for advice? If you do, how often do you listen to the advice? Does it make a difference in your life? Or are you more about trying to find someone that will agree that you are just fine the way you are going about things?

I also listen when given advice. Like you, I pray about what's been said to me, to be sure it rings true before following or rejecting it.

I hear you, though, on the frustration of those who ask for advice but don't take it. I have to remember, "A prophet is not without honor, except in [her] own town." The folks closest to me tend not to listen. They look at my life, they see what I say is rendering positive results. They still don't listen. Strangers listen. Go figure!

I guess not many people have an opinion they wish to share about advice here. It's like the silent pink elephant in the room I guess. Funny that this thread has had 54 views and only two people and one of them being me are commenting. To me, that says it all. Most people really don't want advice, so once again I am left asking the question "Why DO they ask for it?" :D Oh oh oh I think I know! They are just trying to justify their actions or how they feel. But when you give them some true thoughts to ponder they are not interested. Or when you disagree with them, forget about it lol Se la vie! Que Sera, Sera!

I guess I don't ask for advice very often.
The thing I like about posting an question/thought on the web is that one gets several points of view from different people. I consider those points for a while. Then I try to apply the one that I think will work best for me.

Those that don't take advice, it seems like they are so focused on their own thoughts that they can't hear what anyone else is saying.

I have to be honest when i ask for advice I am seriously seeking it, and I want to take the advice and apply it into my life. I can not lie and say that I do this with EVERY SINGLE PERSON that gives me advice on here or anywhere cause it is a battle with the devil and I get torn down again, BUT what holds true with me, any advice that was STRONG enough as in I can tell the words came from the Lord that will stick into my brain forever and when I am having troubles again in the same area I have a reference to "check back to" from that person who gave advice. I stew about it and then let the advice absorb into my consious that helps. I have OCD so I have a habit of repeating myself therefor to some it may look like I really don't take that advice but I DO THE BEST I can, that is the truth. :)
[DO NOTE: I appreciate everyone's advice that has been giving to on here, that I know!}

Thanks for sharing. Having OCD, I imagine, would make your life difficult, and all we ALL can do is to do the best we can with the tools we've been given. I was just curious because it seems like there are alot of people here and IRL that ask for advice they have no intention of listening to and sometimes I just want to ask (so I started the thread :D) WHY do you ask if you really don't want an answer?:D:wave:. But I guess alot of those same people don't want to respond because, well because IDK why? Or maybe they don't have the time because it won't benefit them IDK.
